Team 2 - Is the Dublin Taxi industry attractive? Should I buy a taxi?

Use the porter model for the taxi market in Dublin

Competitive rivalry: There are a lot of different taxi company’s already in Dublin from different classes( luxury -budget)

Threat of substitution: another option for transportation is the public transport (bus, train, luas). this can take you to almost any place in Dublin.

Buyer power: no there is no buyer power, maybe some customers try to get a fixed price, but mostly it’s the price that is determined by the meter.

Threat of new entry: it’s easy to entry because you only need to have a car and a driver license, you don’t need any thing as an education or something. So, it’s very easy to enter this market. (low barriers to entry the market)

Supplier power: The supplier does not have much power. If someone thinks your price is to much, they walk up to an other taxi and get in that one. So with the price you cant do much. The power they have is when it is evening, then there are few taxis and the choice is scarce, and the people need to get home because al the substitutions don’t go anymore.

Team 1 - is the Dublin Fast Food Industry attractive? Should I open a burger restaurant?

Bargaining power of suppliers: The suppliers bargaining power is very low in the fast food industry because there are a lot of places that can supply products such as meat and dairy.

Bargaining power of buyers: Buyers have a high bargaining power as there are many fast food joints and customers are able to pick and choose where they go. If a queue is long in one shop they can choose another shop.

Threat of competition: Competition in the fast food industry is very high as there are already many we’ll known brands in the industry such as McDonalds and KFC, these make it difficult for their competitors as they sell cheap and quality products. Eg.mcdonalds eurosaver menu

Threat of substitution: This threat is also high as any fast food joint can make their own burgers and sandwiches etc.
Also well known brands lack differentiation

and if new entrants come up with a unique product this could attract customers.

The threat of new entrants: This threat is not as high in the fast food industry as it is difficult for new entrants to set up new restaurants. Setting up a restaurant is expensive as it requires capital and infrastructure to build.

Suppliers:
Have alot of control and bargaining power such as Rolls Royce and Boeing which is not good for the industry.

Customers:
Have alot of choice and control very impatient could get a quicker flight and for less.
Price sensitive

New entrants:
A lot of new entrants such as Air Italy constantly growing competition.

Substitute:
Train, shipping or renting a plane service, alot of options that are cheaper.

Overall the EU Airline Industry is not an attractive industry to enter into because of supplier power alot of new entrants cheaper substitutes and customer control.

Suppliers: very high power. can buy the drug and patent it and raise the price. e.g Martin Shkreli. he raised the price of the treatment for aids from $13.50 to $750 a pill. customer has no power as the pharmacy have a set price on the product.

New entrants-Careplus pharmacy is planning to open 12 new stores across Ireland in dublin kerry and cork bringing their total stores up to 51.They plan to have 150 stores across state by 2020.This brings more competition between pharmacy stores.

Customers-they know their choices they e.g they know what theyd need if they had a headache. They cant get prescription drugs anywhere else so they have no choice but to go to a pharmacy.

Substitute: Prescription products can not be substituted. For products, headache tablets(non prescription) can be bought in some shops for example spar, aldi, lidl.

New entrant
•The threat of new entrants is relatively low as it is very difficult to bring something that is unique to the market
•however new entries can find unique ways to popularize products
Customer power
•The bargaining power of buyers is high
•they can push down prices and switch retailer very easily
There are many different retailers available which also increases customers power

Competitors
A lot of competition from big famous brands such as Gucci and Penney’s
Going to have to think whether to enter high end or low end a lot of competition in both
Competitive advantage is that if it’s a brand new trend then it could be successfull if the target audience is right and if they reach them right but it could also fail as trend come and go
Substitutes-the Threat of substitutes is relatively low because people buy the brand and building a brand takes considerable time to build up which is expensive.
Supplier power-suppliers have very little power because this work can be outsourced to other countries,eg.china,
=we think This industry is unattractive.
