The fight was between a group of whites and the Scottsboro boys. The fight started because one of the whites stepped on Pattersons (a person in the Scottsboro boys) hand. The kids ran off and told the people at Stevenson Depot that they were assaulted by the group of blacks.

Minutes later, the National Guardsman opened the door to the court room. In walked Ruby Bates. Under direct examination, Ruby Bates had finally let out the truth with the advice of the New York minister Harry Emerson Fosdick to return to Alabama and tell the truth about what had really happened on March 25, 1931. Bates claimed there was no rape and that none of the defendants touched her or even spoke to her. And to avoid moral charges Price told her to "Frame up a story." BUT, this country was so Bias against blacks in the early 1900's, it didn't change their death sentence. After the trail Bates returned east with Leibowitz and became the leading lady at ILD- sponsored Scottsboro rallies were she would attempt to justify for the boys.

The jury doesn't just contain white males. Trails are fairer for all races, genders, economic status, etc. but there is still room to improve.
