Legend has it that this saint, who came from a noble family in Rome, used to do penances and consecrated her virginity to God. However, her father forced her to marry.

On the same wedding night, the bride let the young groom know that she had given herself to God, keeping her virginity for Him and that it was guarded by an angel.

The husband asked her to show him the angel and to do what she asked, so Cecilia told him that if he believed in God and received baptism, then he would see the angel.

Her husband was baptized and converted like her in the faith of Christianity, but there were not good times in Rome for Christians and both were condemned to die for their religious beliefs.

In Cecilia's case, first they tried it in the hot springs of her own house, trying to drown her with steam without success and then they called an executioner to cut off her head: the story says that he dropped his ax three times on her without succeeding, so he fled in terror, leaving the young woman bloody but alive, although she was badly wounded and finally died three days later.

As mentioned above, Saint Cecilia was forced to marry a young pagan against her will, and died years later after being tortured for her conversion to Christianity.

One of the explanations of why Santa Cecilia is the patron saint of musicians is based on the fact that the young woman dedicated herself to singing internally to God while the musicians played at her wedding, agreed by her parents and the other explanation is that while They tried to suffocate her in the hot springs of her house as punishment for her Christian beliefs, she sang to the Lord.

For this reason, in 1594, Pope Gregory XIII named her patron saint of music, and that is how it continues to this day.
