    I think chess pieces were crafted differently in different places because each piece symbolized a different role depending on where it was, such as the fact that bishops probably did not exist in non christian countries

    I think that the Mantri or Vazir, which is an advisor in war, was changed to a queen for a more powerful piece which would make the game move faster
