Then, a few years ago, I moved to Afghanistan where my parents were born, so my father Habib could pursue his dream of fixing his country and making it perfect and my mother Zafoona could pursue her dream of opening a schoolhouse and becoming a teacher. The first thing my father did to help the country was he helped the Taliban rid Afghanistan of poppy plants so the farmers wouldn't be able to grow any more Opium or Heroin. As the Taliban grew stronger and became eviler, me and my family's lives took a bad turn. First, they banned all women from education, so my older sister Noor and younger sister Mariam couldn't go to school, and my mother Zafoona couldn't pursue her dream of being a teacher. Then, after Habib had helped the Taliban,  they wanted more, so they asked him to help them make America like them because he had gotten a Ph.D. in America, so he was good at English. Habib refused because he did not agree with the Taliban’s ideas, so it got dangerous for my family. That was when we decided to run away and get asylums in America. As we ran, Mariam who is six years old got left behind and it was all my fault. Now we're in San Fransisco and at school. I am being bullied because I am Afghan and the terrorist attacks just happened on the twin towers. In the midst of all of this, I have a plan to try to find Mariam. Since I love photography, I entered a photography competition and if I win, I get a trip to India which is near Pakistan where Mariam is right now. Whenever I am upset, I use photography to calm myself down. When I lived in Afghanistan, I did photography with my father Habib. We would go up into the hills and take pictures of the villages below and then go to our darkroom on Shogund street and produce the photos. That was until the Taliban banned photography. Once I moved to America, I entered a photography contest to try to save my little sister Mariam. I took the perfect picture of my uncle’s parents Abay and Dada, so I am sure I will win. I need to win. This is a picture of Abay and Dada posing as an old couple who has been through a lot. It is perfect because the judges love diversity and history.

One is my cousin Zalmay who is a year younger than me and loves video games. Another is my best friend. Her name is Anh. She also loves photography and has helped me a lot with it.  We made a deal that in the competition she will help do the research because she is good at that and I will help her do the photography itself because I am good at that. After the bullies, Felix and Ike broke my old and beloved Minolta XE camera, Anh let me borrow her brand new fancy Nikon camera. She has been such a good friend to me and I will never forget it. Frankweiler is a great book about a clever girl named Claudia and it is in a museum. Claudia escaped from home and is now in the Metropolitan Museum and found a piece of artwork.
