(Coyoacán, July 6, 1907-ibidem, July 13, 1954) was a Mexican painter.2 Her life was marked by the misfortune of contracting poliomyelitis and later by a serious accident in her youth that the she remained bedridden for long periods, reaching up to 32 surgeries.3 She led an unconventional life.3 Her pictorial work revolves thematically around her biography and her own suffering. She was the author of some 200 works, mainly self-portraits, in which she projected her difficulties to survive. The work of Frida and her husband, the renowned painter Diego Rivera, influenced each other. Both shared a taste for Mexican popular art with indigenous roots, inspiring other Mexican painters of the postrevolutionary period.

In 1939 she exhibited her paintings in France thanks to an invitation from André Breton, who tried to convince her that they were "surrealists", although Kahlo said that this tendency did not correspond with her art since she did not paint dreams but her own life. One of the works of this exhibition (Self-Portrait-The frame, which is currently in the Center Pompidou) became the first painting of a Mexican artist acquired by the Louvre Museum. Until then, Frida Kahlo had painted only privately and it was hard for her to admit that her work could have a general interest. Although he enjoyed the admiration of outstanding painters and intellectuals of his time such as Pablo Picasso, Vasiliork achieved fame and true international recognition after his death, especially since the 1970s.
Kandinski, André Breton or Marcel Duchamp, his work achieved fame and true international recognition after his death, especially since the 1970s.

Eduardo Mateos (PMAR)
