This occurs when the sperm unites with the ovum(fertilisation), this is considered the first step of development for a embryo. Conception can only take place after ovulation; which is the release of an ovum from the ovaries for fertilisation.

The development of an offspring, known as an embryo or foetus, this takes place in the uterus. This usually takes about 40 weeks after conception. The 40weeks are grouped into three trimesters.

First trimester- is from 0-12 weeks. During the first trimester the body undergoes many changes as Taraji starts to develop her eyes and her face are starting to form. Hormonal changes affect almost every organ system in the body. The changes that her mother ‘Bernice Gordon' would experience symptoms like extreme tiredness, headache, craving, vomiting, nausea and mood swings.

Second trimester start from 13-28 weeks. During the second trimester some symptom’s like nausea and morning sickness may go away. However changes to the body are happening e.g. Bernice abdomen will expand as her baby (Taraji) continues to grow. At 14 weeks Taraji P Henson is about 85mm long from head to bottom. Her body parts are starting to develop.

Third trimester starts from 29-40 weeks. By about 32 weeks the baby is usually lying with its head pointing downwards, ready for birth. Taraji 's bones are starting to harden now and her skull is still soft and gentle. There are some new body changes in the third trimester e.g. shortness of breath, heartburn and swelling of the fingers, legs and face. At 37-40 weeks Taraji is about 19-21 inches long which means that she is healthy during this time leading up to birth.

The process of bringing forth childbirth. This is when a baby twists and turns through the birth canal. Taraji was born on 11 September 1970.
When Taraji was born, she was a baby so she didn’t really do much except sleep, eat (breastfed from her mother)&cry.
Physical Development-
Babies usually sleep for 16-17 hours a day, however some babies sleep more than others. Babies must get breastfed or bottle fed every four hours; they need to be fed regularly in order to grow. Babies cry as a way to communicate with their mothers.
A new-born baby will turn their heads towards any touch on the cheek. This is called the rooting reflex and helps the baby to get the nipple or bottle into their mouth to feed.
If you place a finger in a baby palm, they will grasp your finger tightly. This reflex is called the grasp reflex.
If a baby is startled, this could be by a loud noise, they will throw their hands and arms outwards, arching the back and straightening their back this is called the startle reflex.
At 6months Taraji would of been able to lift her hands and head when she is laying flat on her belly.(This indicates that the baby will start crawling soon.) Also, Taraji would want attention from her mother. She is also learning the different responses from her immediate family members according to what she does. She may of been curious with what her parents were doing or even eating. By 12 months Taraji would be able to crawl, stand up, walk and sit up without any support. She may find interest in interactive songs and loud noises, which contributes as entertainment for her as a baby; she would usually show shes interested by screaming, laughing and clapping. By 3 years old Taraji would have been more independent than she was when she was 12 months (1 year) she can put on her own shoes and run without any adult support, she would of also been getting better at dressing her and even feeding herself.

Intellectual Development-
Intellectual means a child’s ability to think about and understand things in a different way for example they could start to pay more attention. New born babies can recognise their mother’s voices straight away. An infants brain development is the key for intellectual development and by six months Taraji would have had different cries for hunger or pain, and would probably hear them babble and coo.
These abilities show that Taraji is gaining communication and
pre-language skills. During a few months after birth babies tend to recognise familiar faces and voices. They are also born with a range of reflexes such as sucking, this will allow them to feed, and these actions lead to motor actions which control the bodies’ muscles.

Emotional Development-
Emotional is relating to a persons emotions e.g. Babies cry because it is there way of trying to communicate when they want to be fed or when they want comfort. The most common reason why a baby might cry is because he/she is hungry, sometimes babies cry for no reason this usually happens when the baby is under five months.
it is during infancy that emotional development is of paramount importance. Attachment made during infancy are usually the strongest and longest relationship throughout life, for example the attachment between a mother and child. At two/three months babies tend to show there emotions through facial expressions for example they begin to frown when they’re about to cry. At this stage they are comforted by being fed or cuddled. At four to six months babies are able to laugh and not just smile. You can also calm a baby down at this stage by picking them up or by showing some kind of gesture that you are familiar to the person. From six to twelve months babies start to suck their thumb and play with their hands.

Social Development-
An infant will begin to enjoy routines (bath time, feeding, and sleeping) they will also discover sensory motor at the end of infancy e.g. waves cries when left on their own, copies action of adults. This area of development involves learning to interact with other people and to understand and control your own emotions. Babies start to develop relationships with the people around them right from birth, but the process of learning to communicate, share, and interact with others takes many years to develop. When a baby is two years old that’s when they start to enjoy playing with other children. When she first starts playing with other children she wouldn’t want to share her toys. However later on she will start to share and include other children to play with her. Once she is in nursery she will start to develop listening skills and be able to communicate with teachers.
