This station is an educational play center where there is lots of print provided for the children to aid in their understanding of print in real life scenarios. The goal here is to help the children gain an understanding of how print is included in daily activities, through acknowledging that there is purpose behind signage and labeling. The signs saying "paper," "plastic," and "metal," will help strengthen their vocabulary. And the "paperwork" on the walls allows them time to practice holding writing utensils and practice the motion of writing or scribbling.

This is an example of a print rich environment by incorporating products and labels the students may recognize from their home lives, and connecting it to their ability to sound out words and their developing literacy skills. Teachers can ask students what the picture represent and guide conversation about how the letters in the pictures sound and how they form words the students are most likely already familiar with.

Story Retelling Center

This retelling station is focused on the story of "Goldilocks and the Three Bears." While here, I expect the students to play with the pictures to recreate the mental image they imagine the book to look like if it were real. I also expect them to act out the roles in the book, using imaginary voices, changing faces, using the masks, and switching between roles. The importance of this sort of environment is to develop expressive language, the children will learn to use more descriptive language to aid in story telling. This station will strengthen their sequencing skills by requiring that they recall the story and try to piece the events together appropriately. It also encourages students to socialize and incorporate reading and literacy into language and communication.

This story retelling station is focused on the story of "The Little Red Hen." In this station I anticipate the students to use the pictures on sticks to act scenes of the stories out using the sticks and puppets as the characters. The phrase cards will promote dialogue by exposing the children to print containing phrases they are familiar with and that are still fresh in their minds. Retelling a story is so important for young children's development because it helps children strengthen their comprehension skills, by understanding and making sense of what they have heard while someone is telling a story.
