Shocked, our nation stands before the downfall of the men of Stalingrad. Three hundred and thirty thousand German men have been senselessly and irresponsibly hounded to their death and destruction by the ingenious strategy of the World War corporal. Führer, we thank you! There is a ferment in the German people: Do we want to continue to entrust the fate of our armies to a dilettante? Do we want to sacrifice the rest of the German youth to the lowly power instincts of a party clique? Nevermore. The day of reckoning has come, the reckoning of our German youth with the most despicable tyranny our people has ever endured. In the name of the entire German youth we demand from the state of Adolf Hitler the return of personal freedom, the most precious good of the German, of which he has cheated us in the most pitiful manner. We grew up in a state of ruthless gagging of every free expression of opinion. HJ, SA, SS have tried to uniformize, revolutionize, narcotize us in the most fruitful educational years of our lives. "Weltanschauliche Schulung" (ideological training) was the contemptible method of smothering budding self-thinking and self-valorization in a fog of empty phrases. A selection of leaders, as it cannot be thought more devilish and narrow-minded at the same time, raises its future party bigwigs on order castles to godless, shameless and conscienceless exploiters and murder boys, to the blind, dumbfounded Führergefolgschaft. We "workers of the spirit" would be just in time to make a cudgel of this new master class. Front-line fighters are reprimanded like schoolboys by student leaders and Gauleiter aspirants, Gauleiters attack the honor of female students with lecherous jokes. German female students at the Munich University have given a dignified answer to the sullying of their honor, German students have stood up for their female comrades and stood firm. This is a beginning to the fight for our free self-determination, without which spiritual values cannot be created. Our thanks go to the brave comrades who led by shining example! T here is only one slogan for us: Fight against the party! Out of the party branches where they want to keep us politically muzzled! Out of the lecture halls of the SS-, Under- or Oberführer and party creeps! We are concerned with true science and genuine freedom of thought! No threatening means can frighten us, not even the closing of our universities. It is the struggle of each one of us for our future, our freedom and honor in a state conscious of its moral responsibility. Freedom and honor! For ten long years, Hitler and his comrades have squeezed these two glorious German words ad nauseam, trashed them, twisted them, as only dilettantes are able to do, throwing the highest values of a nation before swine. What freedom and honor mean to them, they have shown sufficiently in ten years of destruction of all material and spiritual freedom, of all moral substance in the German people. Even the most stupid German has opened his eyes to the terrible bloodbath which they have wrought and are wreaking daily throughout Europe in the name of freedom and honor of the German nation. The German name will remain desecrated forever unless the German youth finally stands up, avenges and atones at the same time, smashes its tormentors and erects a new, spiritual Europe. Students! Students! The German people is looking to us! From us it expects, as in 1813 the breaking of the Napoleonic, so in 1943 the breaking of the National Socialist terror from the power of the spirit. Berezina and Stalingrad flare up in the East, the dead of Stalingrad summon us!

She had two parents, Robert and Magdalena Scholl who gave birth to  Inge, Hans, Elisabeth Werner, Sophie, and Thilde Scholl in  Forchtenberg, Hohenlohe Klesis, Baden-Wurrttemberg Germany. Sophie was the fourth born. She loved reading; she even went to Ludwig Maximilian University for Biology and Philosophy. She was a very intelligent girl who risked her life standing up for what she believed in.
