A great story can help students understand what it's like for people who don't share their race, religion, family structure, or socio-economic status. I am a believer that more is best in the quantity of books.  The experts say 20 books to 1 child.  I would say not even close.  Maybe we could rotate books so the choice and variety changes.  It is so important that students have many many books to choose from.  We can bulk up our library with scholastic points, donations, library sales, yard sales.

They can be categorized by series, topic, level author, etc.. We can do book advertisements and have students also advertise books. This keeps books moving into the hands of the students, having a book recommended peaks interest. I have found the value in having current movies, cartoons, sports figures, disney, super heroes, video games because they are drawn to these.
