I am especially proud of this project because Mrs. Harmonson used this as an example for the rest of the class.

One of our more exciting writing assignments of the year was the business letter, where we wrote an inquiry letter to a business of our choice, in hopes of receiving a letter back. I enjoyed this assignment, especially since the United States Postal Service, the company that I was writing too, wrote back, and sent a few souvenirs along with the letter.

The Best Thing I Read This Year

The best piece of writing I read this year was undoubtedly the classic Oliver Twist by Charles Dickens. Although a very well-known and commonly read book, it was my very first time reading any of Dicken's works, and I immediately fell in love. The book opened up an entirely new world of literature for me.

Although my year in Mrs. Harmonson's language arts class has been scattered with my achievements, I believe that my proudest success was having my character analysis for The Watsons Go to Birmingham being displayed to the entire class by Mrs. Harmonson. Although it was slightly embarrassing, I was still very pleased that Mrs. Harmonson thought my writing worthy of showing to the class.

Socratic Seminars

A socratic seminar, named after the famous Greek philosopher, is a type of discussion frequently used in the classroom to practice a students' debate and logical thinking skills. In the seventh grade, we had two socratic seminars - one about civil rights when we read The Watsons, and another about Charles Dickens when we read A Christmas Carol. My engagement in the socratic seminars were moderately successful, since I participated in the discussion with clear statements that turned the direction of the conversation. however, I would have like to prepare more with evidence if I ever participate in one again.
