I'm Joselle Arcilla, and I'm a young artist studying in St. Scholastica's College Manila. I'm currently still in the 8th grade, so I hope to further improve my skills as I get to higher grade levels, and take more art-centered courses.

My love for art started ever since I was a kid. Some of my biggest hobbies were to watch animes on my favorite channel of Animax on the TV, and play graphics-centered RPG games such as Final Fantasy, Xenoblade, SSBB'S Subspace Emissary, and more. In fact, those are still my hobbies up to this day!

Ever since I started watching or playing them, I've always admired all of the characters' creative designs, and always thought of how it would feel like to draw out your original idea, and bring it to life through animation. This led to my start of art at a young age.

I can unfortunately say that I wasn't very original as a kid. I started off by drawing some of my favorite characters, such as Lucy and Michelle from Fairy Tail, Meliodas from Nanatsu no Taizai, Zack Fair and Lightning from the Final Fantasy franchise, and even more outstandingly detailed characters for my age back then.

I wasn't the best in art. Looking back, if elementary-me showed present-me my old works, I wouldn't even be able to tell who the person in mind was. Unfortunately enough, I actually realized this sooner than I thought I would. As soon as I took note of my below-average skills in Grade 4, I kind of shifted dreams. Instead of focusing on art-oriented subjects, I focused on basic subjects such as Math, Science, and English. Though I did get high grades in those subjects, they never really resonated with me and my plans for a future career choice.

So when I had the free time again during the summer of Grade 7, I decided to take art back up as a side-hobby, just for fun. And it was then, I saw my improvement bit-by-bit. It started off with finally being able to draw faces proportionately, to being able to draw basic parts of human anatomy, to finally familiarizing myself with how small details such as creases in clothes work. Since then, I've actually been trying my best to create my own unique designs in hopes that one day, I can show them off to the world and inspire people just like how those artists inspired me as a young kid.

Though the theme for all of my works this year, a.k.a "Cultural Asian Art" from the different countries of Asia, seems quite far-off from my dream plan of becoming a character designer, I believe that this step can improve my overall understanding of the different cultures and concepts in Asia.
