welcome to ang mo kio secondary school. i’m sure you may feel awkward at first, since that’s how i felt when i first entered this school. but no worries! i’m sure you’ll get used to life in amkss really quick. here’s some advice from me! firstly, make new friends, they will be the one staying with you till secondary 4 or maybe even when you guys grow up. secondly, make decisions that you won’t regret! such as your cca, make sure that you choose a cca that you enjoy. thirdly, don’t worry too much if you can’t cope with secondary school that easily, it’s really normal for you to feel like that so i’m sure you’ll cope soon enough! lastly, make sure to enjoy yourselves with your classmates this year and forge a strong bond with your classmates. hope you enjoy your year in amkss!

Dear Juniors,

Firstly, welcome to AMKSS. I understand you may be a bit confused or shy as you're in a new environment. Don't worry, give it some time and you'll get comfortable. I cannot stress enough about the importance about performing well in the first term. Scoring well in your WA1s is the most important, it sets the tone and learning attitude for the rest of the year. So don't fool around too much. Furthermore, take your topical tests seriously, they may not count towards much in your overall score, but they are definitely essential to your academic ability and performance. Next, choose a CCA that's right for you. This ultimately boils down to what you're looking for. Maybe you DSA'd to this school? Or you're looking to try something new. Either way choose a CCA you know you'll enjoy and will be able to cope with effectively. Lastly, do make sure to find some friends within you class and CCA, they are beneficial to your overall emotional health. They can help you in times of need and definitely make coming to school more enjoyable. Hope your time in Secondary 1 will be well spent and enjoyable!

Hey sec 1s, welcome to amkss. I am Tristan from 1F 2022. I am trying in the express stream and i piece of advice is that you must have continuous practice on all subject to achieve good results. Everyday, you just need to spend 15-30 min on the subject you had on that day. This way, you can revise easier and better when you revise for the test and examination. However, school just isn’t about academics and results. Even if you dont do well in sec one, there is 3 more years ahead to do better.

Hi there welcome to secondary school :D
it is scary on the first few weeks but once you get used to the environment you should be fine.Associate yourselves with the right people and don't mix with the wrong people :) Even though your weighted assesments have a low percentage,they all are important especially your end of year exams so try to do well for all of them! Don't give up in hard times too,there's always people who will be willing to help you and support you :) Just find the correct people and I'm sure you will enjoy secondary school.Do make sure to pay attention even though you don't like the subject because all subjects matter and they can bring down your overall percentage.Make sure to study hard for History and English,there's alot to memorize for history.For English,there's many changes between primary and secondary so make sure to adapt :) I wish you all the best for your first year in secondary school.

Hello Sec 1's, welcome to AMKSS and your Secondary school life! Secondary one is quite a peaceful part of Secondary school. You do not have to be too worried or too stressed during sec one. However, if you do want to be promoted to express and NA or take sbb later on, I will suggest working harder to achieve these goals. In the coming weeks, you will be able to view CCA's of AMKSS, choose your CCA carefully as your CCA will become a large part of your life and you will have to dedicate yourself to the CCA. hello sec ones, wlc to 1f im probably in class 2F rn n as ur snr i wld like to gv u some tips for ur new sec sch journey !! firstly, coming frm pri sch to sec sch will be a vv hard journey to cope n adapt for ur environment, but dont worry n stress to much n enjoy having fn w ur friends. pls choose a right friend grp, if u feel left out or anyt pls do find btr friends u cld also make friends w snrs. pls do not argue w any snrs n respect them as they rlly hated sec 1 being too arrogant. another thing is that u guys shld choose a cca that u rlly like as u might want to skip cca. avoid drama as the confession acc may say some bad things abt u that wld ruin ur self esteem. furthermore i wld like to congratulate u for making this far n completing ur psle !! pls do take ur studies srs. even tho sec 1 doesnt rlly matter for ur subject combination in sec 2 n exams in upper sec, it is testing on ur knowledge, n if u fail sec 1 u might be anxious on ur subjects n might fail in sec 2 if u dont try to work on it aft eoy. it wont look good in ur report book n u might retain. for sbb students if you rlly cant cope on express subjects u can talk to ur teachers about it n request for consultation. try n not get into discipline case n be school on time as they wld b detention or suspension which will look bad in ur record. overally do what uw as sec 1 is the most relaxing yr of ur entire sec sch journey. sec 1 is prob a nice yr for me as i met rlly good friends that is alws here for me so i hope it will be the same for u too !! cant believe im gg to be a sec 2 snr i rlly hope yall make good use of ur sec 1 days !! if u rlly need someone to talk to u can talk to student councillors that u trust or teachers. dont trust ppl easily in sec sch as u might face consequences. Humanities are harder as they require a lot of memorising of the things to study for. You guys should also plan your own timing for how much you should play your favourite games a day and how much you should be spending on revision and homework. If you like a CCA you should go for it as it will make your sec1 life more interesting and fun and if your parents do not allow please discuss with them

Welcome to Ang Mo Kio Sec it must bring you way back to when you were in P1 a new school with new people but don’t be worry you can do it! An important reminder choose a CCA you really are interested because that will be the CCA you will have for the whole of Sec 1.If you’re taking any SBB subjects don’t be afraid to ask questions if you have any queries the teachers here are mostly friendly unless you don’t do your homework or misbehave in class as long as you keep being a good student and do your homework you won’t get into trouble.Revise the topics thought in class and try to remember as much and wait until the last second to revise.Remember to also take breaks and not put too much stress on yourself do your best.Remember to also choose good friends that you vibe with and not people that won’t put attention on you.Be loyal to your friends as well and spend time with them.Hang out together and talking to people actually helps you so don’t worry about making friends be yourself and not change for other people stay true to yourself and be kind to others well that’s all the advice I can give you.Good luck you can do this!! -Elaine

Sec 1 is very different from primary school. For example, subjects are more complicated and more subjects are to be taken such as Geography, History and Literature and there are a lot more challenges but don't worry! We can always help you and feel free to approach us. I was also sec 1 and I know how to deal with challenges and difficult situations. I hope you will have fun in AMKSS and good luck for your secondary school journey!

Hi! Welcome to Ang Mo Kio Secondary School! I hope that you managed to join a CCA you wanted to go to and hope that you won’t regret about it. Work hard as you have 8 subjects that you need to learn. In secondary school, it is very tiring so I hope you will get used to this, as I remember myself with arms and legs pains when carrying my heavy bag and pld 😀👍 ( I’m still not used to it lmao ). Also make sure you are early or you might have to stay back to do stuffs. I hope you also get to experience Family day soon! It was very fun! Tips for secondary 1
1.pick a cca you like and attend trial to learn more about the cca
2.try to have as much fun as possible as you would not be able to do it once you reach upper secondary
3.try to revise what your teacher taught during lesson after school if you have time
4.memorise history notes if u have time as you would not be able to memorise everything last minut (one of the example me)

My advice to u is to be with the friends that understand u and not the friends u think r cool next join a cca u like so u don't regret joining a cca u don't like u must listen in the cca tryouts and try to go for all of them for me ncc was not my first choice but after a few trainings I felt that not only can it improve my discipline but it can also be beneficial to ur physical and mental health as long as u r with the friends uk and r tolerable since talking about CCAs pls join ncc. All the ncc seniors r nice especially me and my friends

I’m sure that you might be anxious or nervous coming the secondary school. Secondary school is not as scary as you think. Especially this school, it is full with kind teachers and seniors that you can rely on. For me, it was quite hard to cope with the new environment of the school and the expectations of parents and teachers. But after some time, I got used to it and able to study in a good environment. During the first 2 weeks, you should try and form relationships with classmates as they could help you when facing difficulties. I also think that this school has a great variety of CCAs to choose from. I hope that you are able to do well in your academics. Wish you all the best!

Hi Juniors, welcome to amkss! This is a new journey for you as u change from primary school to secondary school. Hope you are happy with your psle results. Even if u have unexpected results, is ok! Just work harder in secondary school! In secondary school, you will have 8 subjects unlike in primary school with 4 subjects. For me, I feel that history, geography and literature are the subjects I struggle with as they are new subjects which may have a longer time to learn. Just pay attention to your teachers in class and asked questions whenever you are in doubt! You will do great!😉 For cca, choose the one you are interested in the most as the trainings sessions will be more and the hours are long. If you ever encounter any problems, pls feel free to ask any of ur seniors(like us😃) or teachers. Most importantly, have fun in AMKSS!

being secondary students we need to manage our time properly as we need to stay back after school for our cca and other school events. something very important is to choose a cca that you like and you are interested in, because you need to stay in that cca for 4 years and it can help with your o level. if there is any school events try to attend and more friends.if there is class chat please look at the message don’t be like me🥲. ms sun say that the advice i can give is language is very important. as i failed my english and it is very important to pass english although i don’t think that you will be like me but just work harder. wish y’all enjoy your time in amk secondary, this is a good school and the school got a lot of interesting events and things to play with.

i would like to start by saying that you may feel uncomfortable on the first day of sch which is fine cause that was how i felt when i first entered. Also, choose your CCA wisely and join something u find interesting. When u go on learning journey with your classmates, make sure to fight for the back seat of the bus and push everyone aside and just rush for it. Listen to me bc i experienced, u go back seat right, you are cool. Make sure to study hard for your exams cause i did not i and did very badly🥲.

Hii juniors!! WELCOME TO AMKSS!! Congrats from getting over PSLE!! Oh and, here is some advice that you might need :D
1. History is hard. Like really. Really hard. But if u study then u might get like a B3 but i think u wont fail. (How to study for history: write and write and memorise and memorise)
2. Choose the right CCA. If its not the one you want, then uhhh good luck (its ok i think our sch has alot of good ccas)
3. Do your homework or your teachers are going to kill you. I mean like this is normal right even in pri sch yall have to do hw.
4. I don't know much about other CCAs, but i can tell u abt mine! Mine is girl guides and yah its quite fun. The seniors are very very very nice and we have camps during school holidays! Dont be scared, camps are gonna be quite fun! (I think)
5. PARTICIPATE IN ACTIVITIESSS
If you dont participate in activities e.g (run away from doing stuff like ALP or IAP) you gonna miss out on alot of fun experiencences. IAP drama too! At first i was VERY VERY SCARED to talk infront of my class. But then if you manage to gain enough courage, you confirm can do one.
6. You can use phone during recess!!! I know it sounds so cool right??? But dont use phone during class ok. It sounds fun but dont. Just dont. Your phone will go 'bye bye'
7. Prepare yourself for many subjects. It will be quite hard at first buut if you put in the time to do it you can do it. JIA YOU!
8. Art is graded. Yea. In primary school art may or may not be graded, but in secondary school it is. Yea so try yr best
9. FCE IS SO FUNN
Basically FCE means food consumer education. It means you cook food. Yea. Make sure to bring your nessary items for fce or be prepared to pay mdm rose 30cents for a container that costs 10cents in the bookshop. Yea. WHAT TO BRING FOR FCE:
-two cloths(can be found at bookshop)
-one airtight container (bookshop)
-both fce textbooks
-two ziplock bags
10. respect your ogl okay
11. Just have fun, sec one very chill. But the other half of sec 1 (after June hol) you gotta be prepared okay, but just try to have fun <333

Well done on making it to secondary school! I believe that you should join a CCA that you enjoy as you will regret joining a CCA that you dislike in the future. Don't worry about the stress of the additional subjects as it is normal to feel that way. I advice you to starting planning your time from the start of the year as it get even more stress as the year progresses. If you are feeling blue, talking to your primary friends may help you or you can do things that you like to distract your mind. Secondary school isn't all about studying and getting good results, you also need to be social and active.

I am Gerrard from 1F of last year. I just wanted to give you some tips to enjoy your first year here. Firstly, do make as many friends as possible during your orientation camp as you will be doing a lot of activities together as a class. Secondly, do make the most out of the orientation camp as you'll only have it once. Lastly, do study very hard no matter what stream you are in as the exams in secondary school are much different from primary school. I know how u feel right now because when I first come to AMKSS I felt the same way as u guys. And sec 1 is different from primary 6, there is going to be more subject for u to learn and more thing u need to settle yourself. Choose the CCA you like the most and we need to be more responsible no more teacher will be like primary school teacher chasing after u homework when you never submit. And if u are in sbb subjects u also need to cope with other subject not just only the sbb subjects just try your for all subject. Welcome to AMKSS, Congratulations on passing PSLE. Secondary school is a new step ahead and you're going to learn new thinks, entering AMKSS changed my life in a good way. I managed to make new friends and meet new people and learn new subjects that I didn't during primary school. The first week of school, I was nervous and scared but my seniors guided us and made us feel comfortable and tried to make everyone know each other, they also helped us choose our CCA. My CCA is Netball. I like being in Netball despite going home late, but every CCA finish late. My Netball seniors helped me to know the CCA more and they are very kind. I wish y'all the best.
