Through a partnership with the US EPA Great Lakes National Program Office, and funding from the Great Lakes Restoration Initiative through NOAA, educators will spend a full week alongside researchers aboard the US EPA R/V (Research Vessel) Lake Guardian. Facilitated by Great Lakes Sea Grant Network educators, the Shipboard Science Workshops, one per year, rotate among the five Great Lakes and are designed to promote Great Lakes sciences while forging lasting relationships between Great Lakes researchers and educators. Past participants have described the experience as a “once-in-a-lifetime, professional learning opportunity.”

These shipboard workshops provide a unique opportunity that cannot be duplicated by any other educational entity in the basin. The week-long scientific exploration of Lake Erie will take place July 7-13, 2024, providing educators with a hands-on opportunity to explore microplastics, phytoplankton, benthic organisms, sediment, and other Lake Erie-specific topics while living and working alongside Great Lakes scientists on a vessel conducting critical research. This is truly an amazing opportunity for educators.

Beyond participating in the shipboard science workshop, educators also receive a stipend to support integration of Great Lakes Literacy through experiential learning and stewardship with their learners. Apply now to be considered for the 2024 workshop

Good morning!  To those of you who have scheduled labs, thank you for trusting us as an educational partner.  If you have not scheduled yet, now is the time! Get your lab request in to secure your lab for this semester or for labs next semester.  Also, take a look at the two new labs we have this year!

Starting on Black Friday, we are again offering the $100 Amazon gift cards for recruitment of new teachers. So talk with your colleagues and get them on board with Engineering Tomorrow.
