In the fall of 2001 I was a senior at Poteet High School. I got to school early because that morning I was supposed to go to a meeting to sign up for the Spring Break trip to Spain. The meeting was cancelled and the trip, of course, was too. Later, in 1A Aquatic Science, we were watching the news on the tv. At that point we still thought the first plane hitting the tower was an accident. Then, we saw the image below. I remember thinking, "Oh, that's just a replay." But, we quickly realized that we were watching live. That's when it sunk int hat we were under attack, and hundreds of people in that very moment died. That's when the principal came on the announcements and ordered all televisions to be turned off.

I was sitting watching the second plane hit with my mom in Illinois. When we heard that all the airports were shut down we thought of how we were going to get. Went to Hertz to inquire about renting a car and they wanted $1000 for two days. Finally flew home two days later and you cannot believe how tight the security was. I think my mom finally breathed again when we landed in Dallas. Really strange times

I was teaching 3rd grade at Porter Elementary. My principal came to my classroom and asked to speak with me in the hall. She said, "I don't know if you have heard, but we are under attack right now in America. Don't say anything to the students. We are going on lockdown, Just keep teaching, we may release early. Leave the television off if you were planning on watching an educational show. We have the television on in the office. As we get more information we will let you know." I could not comprehend what she was saying, I actually thought she had gone CRAZY. It wasn't making sense. I walked back in my classroom, and almost broke down in tears, because I knew at that moment these students had just lost some of the freedom I had had as a child, and that the world would never be the same again. A little later on, we took a restroom break, and I went into the office and finally understood what was going on. Then we kept hearing the jet fighters flying over us as they were escorting planes to the two Dallas airports to land. Very scary, sad day. I remember when I got home from work, calling my mom and saying I loved her. Then staying up as late as possible watching CNN, ABC all night.

I was in 6th grade. After the announcements, the TV in our portable defaulted to a news station. When the first tower was hit, the news was playing it over and over thinking it was a horrible accident. As the second one hit, out principal came over the innercom asking all teachers to cover windows and to turn off the TV. Thankfully, my teacher covered the windows then turned and said, “Pay attention, your watching history.” That’s when the magnitude of it sank in. A class of 25 students and a teacher, trying to keep it all together, sitting in silence for what felt like hours l, though only mere minutes, watching history.

However, I don’t think it became real until my Senior year of high school when I was taught by a survivor. We didn’t get much of Mr. Lividini’s stories but for a young and naive 17 year old girl, he was my living proof and hope for that horrible day.

In a day where people are looking for anyway to divide our nation, I am thankful that through the ugly and evil of that day came patriotism, empathy and love for one another. #wewillneverforget

I remember. I remember sitting in Mrs. Butler’s class, listening to her teach, when Mrs. Witherspoon came running in with a chain of paper lips and said “we have to turn on your tv. Something awful has happened in New York.” They hooked up the paper clips to the tv to get a news channel, and other classes came to sit on our floor as we watched the second tower being hit. Mrs. Butler handed out paper and told us to write down what we were seeing, how we were feeling, what we were hearing. I still have that paper and I read it every year.

Today, like every other day, I’m thankful for my freedom. For this great country we are blessed to live in. I’m thankful for our military men and women and for all of our first responders. I’m thankful for another day here with my family and the blessings of our amazing Lord.

God bless America!

That was the last day I was in that amazing city, I told JR that I would go to the top of the World Trade Center next time I visited the Big Apple. 2 weeks later the world changed forever. When the 2nd plane hit our sense of security and safety was shattered. Never forget the events of 9/11.

I’ll never forget where I was on 9/11- first year as as a librarian and my office was one of the few in the building that could get the news feed. A teacher stuck her head inside the library to say a plane struck the World Trade Center and I asked if it was an accident and she said no! I turned on the TV and watched in horror. Then going out as if nothing happened to help kids with books. In and out all day long. It was hard for teachers that day. Then the next day I remember a lot of our Muslim students being absent out of fear😕

As we rotated students through the cafeteria to get their photos taken, the librarian came and grabbed me, dragged me to the library...and we watched the second plane hit the towers...we watched the towers fall. Our students left class and met around our flag pole and prayed...for those people, for our country, for ourselves.

17 years ago I was in college. I remember I was sleeping in and my buddy called me and asked if I was watching the news. He said a plane had flown into the World Trade Center and it looked bad. I woke up turned on the TV and saw the second plane fly into the towers. After that, we were awestruck, afraid for our friends who were in New York. My aunt had worked in the WTC, so I was nervous about friends and family. I then remember waiting in line for gas, and wondering if they were going to start another draft. Some of my friends went to enlist, but that day, we were shook to a whole new level. We all agreed that this was our generation's Pearl Harbor.

Never Forget. I was in my college dorm room with the news on, you know trying to be an adult. I left my book and came back to retrieve it. I saw the first tower was smoking from an obvious accident. Both the news anchors and myelf were confused of what exactly happened. Unconfirmed reports flooded in, then comfirmation of a plane striking the tower was reported. I stayed to watch and realized I needed to go to class. As I was leaving, the second plane hit the south tower. Being a history major, all I could think of was, is this Pearl Harbor all over again? Thoughts of the draft and going to war like many of my family members was the place that I went without knowing any facts. Classes were cancelled for the rest of the day, but football pracitce was not. Here is why we practiced, we had Army National Guard members on our team. Our coach knew that this might be their last practice, so we practiced and enjoyed the moment. Looking back after so many years, that practice emodied the spirit of America. It showed that nothing will stop us and proved how we can pull together to become a cohesive unit of Liberty and determination. God bless and Let's Roll (Flight 93)!
