I use memes myself everyday in order to communicate and share my emotions, opinions and points of view without actually using words to describe it. It is much easier to speak up when it’s either a deep conversation or when I’m hurt. On the daily basis, I use memes to joke around with people, with all the new trends and new slangs you find common interests with new people. Thus, I decided to create a website that will explain what memes are and the way they affect us. Furthermore, I discovered that memes allow youth representatives to share their views and opinions without being misunderstood or judged, what makes youth like and apply memes for more than just entertaining reasons.

Almost half of the respondents tend to sometimes use Internet trends in their speech, a third of them do it always and only approximately one sixth of them very rarely. This means that all of them use memes in their off-line life, with different frequency, but they still do. This once again shows that memes have an impact on the youth social behavior; it forms specific dialect among Internet users and allows them to communicate in more interesting ways. In a long term it might even have a significant effect on the linguistic picture of the nation because most of the memes are part of the Western culture and some words cannot be translated with the same meaning, so they remain untouched and are applied in their original form.

Completing this project has developed my understanding of personal and cultural expression as it has shown that memes are also part of art and self-expression which are important in the modern world. In future works I will refer to this experience and improve my analytical abilities. Since I am also a youth representative it was interesting for me to write on this topic. I have struggled with time and self-management skills, as I have made a lot of mistakes which needed correction. They can be seen in the supervisor’s feedback. Gladly, I have made corrections and learnt that making mistakes only gives you a boost to achieve your final goal. Through these mistakes I understood how to work and what I should focus on.
