After spending more time with him and learning about him, Jaja and Kambili have a stronger connection with him. This connection is evident when Jaja and Kambili look at the painting of him together and are both willing to protect it despite their father’s deep dislike for Papa-Nnukwu and the painting. Their reactions are expected when taking in the whole context of how much they and their lives have changed when staying in Nsukka with Aunty Ifeoma’s family.

Jaja and Kambili have been restricted to an abusive and strict lifestyle their father has created for them.
