For one, the camp, although not being an overnight camp, was entertaining and fun, yet also instilled a sense of discipline, teamwork and communication in all of us. I am also extremely thankful that our school gives us a camp every year, as it is quite uncommon for schools. This camp will forever be etched in my mind, and I will forever be grateful that this camp was set up for all of us in school. Even though, I had a fear of fire, I mustered up the courage to face my fear of lighting fire by myself manually for the first time. During camp shine it was very fun and joyous, my favourite experience in the entire camp was dragon boating which for me stands out from all the activities which i did. There were many reasons why i liked it one of them was that me and some of my other friends wore a different size life jacket which i liked, i also had a fear of water and since the boat was rocking i feared it even more but my buddy En kai managed to calm me down, and when we started, our instructor was old but very wise and skilled, and when we were training i did not know that we were going to splash water, when the first boat attacked us and i became a navy general i was just giving orders. But even though the experience i learnt from this camp was even though we won or that we were good i need to be patient and listen.

Thinking about Camp Shine, I would like to say that that camp was definitely the most memorable part of the year as of now. For one, the camp, although not being an overnight camp, was entertaining and fun, yet also instilled a sense of discipline, teamwork and communication in all of us. I am also extremely thankful that our school gives us a camp every year, as it is quite uncommon for schools. This camp will forever be etched in my mind, and I will forever be grateful that this camp was set up for all of us in school. That said, Camp Shine was a great camp and I am excited for next year's camp.

Camp shine was definitely the most memorable event of semester one. Through all the games and activities, we learnt values such as responsibility and resilience, the team games allowed us to know our classmates better and even make new friends. I am also grateful that the school has given us the opportunity to participate in a camp even during a pandemic. Although I am not particularly fond of camps in general, I genuinely did enjoy my time during camp shine and look forward for camp next year.

Camp shine was the most memorable event in secondary 1. Even though the camp was not overnight, we still had fun by cooking our own food, dragon boating and making our own canopy. From this camp, I had realised that my class mentors are very competitive. We really enjoy the camp but we were really disappointed as we had missed rafting due to wet weather. However, our instructor had planned out fun games for us to play. Nevertheless, the whole camp was a success as we learnt how to work together and our teamspirit improved and we had more communication with on another. Overall, we are very thankful for this camp as it is not really common for other school to have once a year.

Thinking back about Camp Shine, made me realise that it was probably an event that i really enjoyed participating in. Even though it was not an overnight camp, i still had a lot of fun with my teammates. This camp definitely made me also realise that working together is important as without teammates, the rafts would not be successful, everyone would be rushing trying to cook by theirselves and the boat for dragon boating would not be able to move. But in the end, everyone worked together and everything was a success. I would not say i love going on camps but i definitely enjoyed this experience.

Camp Shine was definitely an enjoyable and meaningful experience. We got to do lots of fun and unique activities and try out creative games that the instructors came up with. I particulary enjoyed dragon boating as it was extremely thrilling and it taught us how to coordinate with each other. Throughout the camp, I felt I could really bond with my classmates and found many oppurtunities to work together. Unfortunately, we were unable to participate in rafting due to the weather and the class was really gloomly on the bus ride back to school. Despite the set back, we tried our best to lift up our spirits and be more lively in the other games. Overall, the camp was very memorable and I am incredibly grateful to the school for planning this event.

As I look back on the year so far, I would say that the Secondary one camp was the most memorable event that I shared with my classmates. Through the camp activities such as dragon boating, outdoor cooking and other activities, I was able to learn more things about them that I did not know about before. Although we did not get to do what we thought was the most interesting activity, rafting, due to bad weather, the camp was fun filled and exciting. I also learned the importance of teamwork as alone, I would not have been able to do much in the activities. The camp was a wonderful experience and I would love to do it again.

Looking back at this year, one of the best experiences for me in Greendale sec is probably camp shine. From the camp, i have learnt team-bonding skills and other important values such as resilience and responsibility through these camp activities. Although we did not do actual camping, we learnt many other wilderness skills such as making a fire to cook food and making a raft to float on. I have heard from my other friends in secondary school that they have no such experience like they have here in Greendale and i am very grateful for the experiences that they give us. This probably would go down as one of my favourite things in secondary school.

Reflecting on the year of Secondary One so far, I have concluded that Camp Shine was definitely the remarkable event (for now). We got to participate in activities that I have never done before, such as dragon boating, which was extremely enthralling to me. I really enjoyed it and would definitely participate in it again given the chance to. Through this camp, I got to know my classmates better and learned to work together. Despite being unable to fully enjoy the Camp Shine experience due to wet weather, I still appreciate the instructors' efforts to allow us to enjoy the last day of camp by carrying out some Wet Weather activities. In a nutshell, I did not expect camps like these when I had first joined Greendale and I am forever thankful that we are given the chance to carry out these camps.

Camp Shine will forever be in my mind as it is the most memorable event that has happened in my Secondary 1. Participating in the camp activities, I have learnt the importance of teamwork more thoroughly. Even when going against our own classmates in team games, I realised we all were competitive in our own ways. During our outdoor cooking activity, the weather was not on our side. It was windy and we had a hard time setting up our fire and food. However, we found solutions to prevent our given items from flying away due to the wind. I am really proud of myself for stepping up to be in charge of the fire. Even though, I had a fear of fire, I mustered up the courage to face my fear of lighting fire by myself manually for the first time. Once I mastered how to light up the fire, I offered help to my other classmates who were not able to light their fire. I am really appreciative for Greendale for giving me this opportunity to make me a better version of myself. I really had a fun time and enjoyed the three days with my classmates. I'm happy that I am here today as a Greendale student.

Camp Shine was the most memorable event I have ever experienced during my time at Greendale. My friends and i became closer and we bonded a lot more during the camp. The activities was very enjoyable, and I got to learn more about the importance of teamwork and communication with my team members. Although most of the activities were under the hot sun, I thoroughly enjoyed my time with my class. Recalling my entire Secondary 1 journey so far, I have to say that Camp Shine was one of the most memorable experiences. Even though it was not an actual overnight camp, I still managed to make a lot of fun memories and learning points through it. Through the entertaining activities, such as Dragon-boating, Outdoor cooking, Rafting, I not only had a ton of fun, but also learnt a lot about teamwork, awareness, and attentive listening. None of these enjoyment and valuable lessons would be possible without our teachers and instructors. I am truly grateful for everyone that helped organise this annual event and I look forward to making more memories in the next year's camp. :)

So far in my educational journey , I think Camp shine was the most memorable experience I ever had . Not only it teaches us moral values but it helps us to be more confident and face your fear . Not only it is fun but i also made new friends . I got to participate in different types of activities such as dragon boating ,rafting,and outdoor cooking . One of the most interesting activities was outdoor cooking even though the food that me and my friends cooked was salty . I had a lot of fun and this all could not have happened without our beloved teachers and instructors. I am so grateful to the teachers as they are willing to sacrifice their time and work to plan all of that despite the pandemic . This adventure will forever be remembered by me and my friends. I would definitely go again if i am given the chance to do it again .

Camp Shine was definitely a key event in Semester one. Although i would have wanted an overnight camp, the three day camp was still eventful and fun. We got to experience outdoor cooking, dragon boating and trebuchet. Even though there were ups and down, overall I still had an enjoyable time socializing with my class mates. One of the things i was looking forward to going to Greendale was the camps as i did enjoy my camps in Primary School. I am glad we got the oppurtunity to experience this camp as I know they are schools who don't have a level camp.

If there was one thing that i would remember from my whole secondary school journey, it would definitely be the level camp. Despite it not being an overnight camp, the activities during the 3 days were fun and strengthened our friendship and class spirit. My favourite activity was the rafting at sentosa, it had required us to use the most teamwork, not only the build and secure the raft but also paddle it to the end point, capsizing and pulling it back to shore. Despite the heat, we worked together and got the task done.This camp had truly taught me the value of teamwork and its importance.

After experiencing so many activities in the past six months i feel that Camp Shine was honestly the most memorable one to me.Although it has only been half a year i think that this would and will actually be one of the most fun programmes from this year, i have always dreaded going for camps especially when there were a lot of strenuous activities involved.However, Camp Shine really changed my perspective of that.Without this camp, there would be so many things i would not experience.For example,Dragon boating,when i first heard we were going to participate in Dragon boating i was quite frankly scared of what was going to happen but i can confidently say i really enjoyed myself during the activity. This camp has also made me get used to all the different situations i never thought i would allow myself to be in but however once i just started enjoying myself the camp was extremely eventful and i genuinely hope that the camps in the future years will be as fun or more fun like this camp

Camp shine was a wonderful experience for me. It was my first camp in secondary school with my new friends. We had fun and had memorable lessons. one memory will be forever etched in my mind. It was the last day of camp. On that day, our activity was to do outdoor cooking. I was so hyped and ready for this activity. Since i was the fire starter, i was in charge of taking care of the fire and starting it. Frankly, it was no easy task to start the fire as it required a lot of time and patience, waiting for the spark to come. Another factor was that the wind was howling which made things fly and fall. I persevered through and got the fire started. In the end, i had a splendid time bonding with my friends and had a memorable experience. if there was another camp, i would participate willingly. Nonetheless, camp shine is one of the best camps i have gone too.

I think Camp Shine is by far my most memorable time in Greendale Secondary School so far. Even though we are in a pandemic, teachers tried their best to make this camp possible. The most fun part was when we got to shine in the cooking challenge so that might be why its called Camp Shine. The second activity I like is the Scavanger Hunt. Some people were not willing to share the answers, even my own class will not share but if anyone asked our team, we will give them answers as we just want everyone to have delicious food and a memorable time.

On hindsight , I realised that Teamwork and certain skills were needed such as listening and respect if we ever wanted to accomplish anything.

On hindsight, camp was really fun and enjoyable. It also thaught me something that i never knew that i would enjoy. I used to not like going outdoors and always liked staying in. When camp started, i really did enjoyed it, especially outdoor cooking. I was able to work well with my classmates and even managed to bring out the inner chef in me. In the last two months, I had an exciting and memorable camp. It was great as I got to learn many things. The activities that I do really taught me new things. One of the activities is rafting. Looking back on the events Greendale Secondary School prepared for us, I think that Camp Shine is the event that I enjoy the most. I managed to enjoy myself and spend time with my classmates and teachers. Through the camp, I learnt new skills. Under the scorching hot sun, I built a raft with my teammates. Although we had many arguments and struggles to build the raft, we managed to pull through and work together. I also enjoyed myself during the Dragon Boat activity as I have not tried something like it before. I also learnt how to cook in a different way through outdoor cooking. As i look back the day I went for camp during primary school , I would truly say that the Secondary one camp was the most unforgettable event and experience that i had been with my class. Camp Shine was one of the most memorable things in Semester 1. I learnt a lot from the camp even though it was only 3 days as 3 days is a short amount of time. We learnt how to cook food and learnt how to paddle on a dragon boat. During rafting we also learnt how to build a raft and bond with our teammates while building as it takes a lot of teamwork. During Outdoor Cooking, me and my teammates had a lot of fun trying to cook food and make it taste good and not burnt. While on the Dragon Boat, I had the pleasure of constantly getting splashed at as I had been seated at the back. Overall the camp was fun and enjoyable, it also made me realize that teamwork is very important.

The Camp shine trip was a great experience for our class. Being around nature, like we were, gave us the opportunity to understand our outside environment
better. Dragonboating, rafting and outdoor cooking were some of the fun things we got to do with our classmates! This camp experience made me understand the values such as teamwork and resilience better. It makes me bond with classmates better with the ones i rarely worked and talked with. Camp shine was one of the most memorable camps in my life.The reason why it was one of the most memorable camps is because when i first saw the activities, i was stunned but excited about what was going to happen, Dragon Boating was a sport i have never tried before in my life. I was excited that i was going to ride in a dragon boat for the first time but i was stunned as i did not know how it works so i got a bit scared. i was quite excited about rafting and the treasure hunt. I was excited about rafting because it looked nice and I got to build it! Building it made it more fun and enjoyable which helped us become a better team and better friends. I loved treasure hunting as it had numbers to locate the object on the map which made it quite interesting. i found most of the numbers and that made me happier than ever before. All these activities from Camp Shine has taught me something, it taught me that we have to work with our friends and cooperate with others to get things like projects done, without teamwork everyone would have less to none done. That is why Camp Shine is one of my most memorable camps in my life.

Camp Shine was the best camp i ever had, the adrenaline of excitement rushes through my blood. No doubt that this was the best experience i had in this school and i am looking forward to more enriching experiences like this. This camp has actually changed my perspective through nature and the learning of new skills along the way, even though I was frankly scared to enter the dragon boat which looks extremely sketchy, i gathered all my courage and persevered through my fears.
Even in this camp, this gave me an opportunity to connect with my group mates more, and to make special connections with close friends. Although the camp was hot and tiring, i loved how my classmates cheered us on when we were tired. The overall of the camp was heartwarming and satisfying, and I hope that there is more to come soon!

Camp shine was the best camp i have ever had. It was so fun. It was very exciting and enjoyable. We were able to do activities such as dragon-boating, rafting and outdoor cooking. All the activities were fun as all three activities taught me how to be more responsible and resilient. This camp gave me an opportunity to try out activities i never tried before and work with other people as a group. Overall the whole camp was fun and exciting. I could not wait for what activities we are going to do for the next camp shine!

The camp shine experience was really fun. I enjoyed the dragon boating the most as the first part when we got onto the boat it felt like it was going to flip over. Even though we could not jump into the water, the experience was still a fun one. The camp shine experience was really fun. The experience is fun and by far is the most memorable time in Secondary one. Spending time with my classmates made me think differently about them. Even though the three day camp felt short but I had fun with my classmates and teachers. I thought that my teachers would not take part in the activity. They were drenched by my classmates splashing water at them. I got closer to my friends as we were in the team all the way and we were working well together. We helped each other when one of us didn't understand what the instructor said.

Camp shine was fun and it made me be more comfortable with my friends and open up a little more then i usually would , since i do not really like to express myself to others that much , even though i was not as open to them as i am with my primary school friends , i still was able to open up more and maybe i will open up more to them in the future. i am also very grateful to be in a group with my friends as i would not feel so awkward talking to classmates i do not really talk to. it was a great experience having a camp that does not need us to stay overnight in school .

If anyone had asked me what was the most enjoyable or the most memorable thing i did during secondary one. In my opinion out of everything i had did, i would choose camp.
During camp shine, we had spend three days and during the three days we did dragon boating, rafting and outdoor cooking. Overall i enjoyed the dragon boating activity the most as during it i manage to have a race with other classes and also after it i felt more brave. It was a pity that it ended so fast but over all it was a enjoyable dragon boating experience.

Camp Shine was the only camp i had so far,there was no doubt that is was the most memorable experience i had throughout the year. I learned many new values like not giving up in the raft building, the dragon boating taught me the importance of teamwork and that things will be harder by yourself so learn to work together with everyone. Of course the teachers and the instructors were the ones who set up this camp and we have to be appreciative towards them. In a nutshell, the camp is the best event i had in secondary one and i will always remember this event and i cannot wait for the next camp!

Camp shine was definitely the best experience in semester one. Although I was not able to try out rafting due to the bad weather, the camp still did not fail to allow me to have a great time. From camp activities, I have learnt team-bonding and communication skills to help us achieve our task together. I also learnt many things about my friends. I look forward to similar activities which will be happening and wish that it is as enjoyable as camp shine.

Think back about camp shine , i felt that camp is the most memorable in the past seven months . Even though we didn't sleep over night , we still have fun . dragon boating was the best activity i tried . we splash water at each other and which is fun to play but it will makes u regret too because u cannot shower there and ur hair will smells bad , and it really did

Let’s find out!

Picture the following scenario:

• How would you have felt if the patient had been you?

• Does the doctor need to know what the man was doing before he was hit, to save his

leg?

• What information will the doctor need?

• How could you have summarised the above incident to help the doctor quickly but

clearly understand what had happened and start the surgery immediately?

At the end of the segment, you would have found answers to these questions and learnt

to answer the summary question.

• What is summary writing?

• Why do we need to learn summary writing?

• How do I do a summary?

Doctor: “Okay what happened to this guy?”

Nurse: Doctor, let me tell you what happened. You see doc this man

met with an accident at Bedok North. He had just finished

buying prawn noodles for his lunch from a nearby hawker

centre and was crossing the road when he was hit by a red

Mazda 323. The driver was a 52 year old man. This guy’s left

leg got trapped under the wheel. The Civil Defence officers had to

be called in to extract him. The limb is broken in several places and

we need to start the surgery immediately in order to save his leg!

Summary Writing Skills : Part I - Giving only the necessary

information

To do that:

1. OMIT UNNECESSARY DETAILS OR IRRELEVANT INFORMATION

• In summary writing you only need to give the main gist of the text. There is

no room for details, irrelevant information and repetitions and examples in

a summary.

• Additional information like description of a thing, place or person that are

not important for the understanding of the text should be omitted in a

summary.

• Including unnecessary details will only add on to the length of the summary.

LET’S TRY THIS EXERCISE ON PICKING OUT IRRELEVANT INFORMATION.

Read the passage below and delete any irrelevant information.

Then rewrite the passage in the right column, omitting the irrelevant

information.

The first step towards summarising is to extract only relevant points which

will help answer the summary question.

To do that, you will need to delete :
