         <description><![CDATA[<div><br>The <a href="https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Transport_Workers_Union_of_America">Transport Workers Union of America</a> (TWU) led by <a href="https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mike_Quill">Mike Quill</a> shut down the city with a <a href="https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/1966_New_York_City_transit_strike">complete halt of subway and bus service</a> on mayor <a href="https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Lindsay">John Lindsay</a>'s first day of office. As New Yorkers endured the transit strike, Lindsay remarked, "I still think it's a fun city," and walked four miles (6 km) from his hotel room to City Hall in a gesture to show it. <a href="https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dick_Schaap">Dick Schaap</a>, then a columnist for the <a href="https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/New_York_Herald_Tribune"><em>New York Herald Tribune</em></a>, coined and popularized the sarcastic term in an article titled <em>Fun City</em>. In the article, Schaap sardonically pointed out that it was not.<a href="https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/History_of_New_York_City_(1946%E2%80%9377)#cite_note-FYI_Fun-4"><br></a><br></div><div><br>The transit strike was the first of many labor struggles.          <title>Brooklyn plane crash</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>The Brooklyn plane New crash where Dorp High School now stands. There were no survivors, and the 44 bodies were brought to <a href="http://untappedcities.com/2015/03/03/inside-the-abandoned-childrens-hospital-and-tunnels-at-seaview-hospital-staten-island/">Seaview Hospital</a>. The DC-8 made it all the way to <a href="http://untappedcities.com/tag/park-slope/">Park Slope</a>, Brooklyn, where it came down on Sterling Place near the intersection of 7th Avenue. Devastation to this dense residential area was significant. 10 brownstones went aflame, along with a funeral home at the intersection, a deli and laundromat. The prophetically-named Pillar of Fire Church located mid-block was completely destroyed. A 90-year old caretaker of the church was killed, one of six casualties on the ground.</div>]]></description>
