She uses her imagination as a way to escape the judgements, making her hide her emotions and take the criticism to heart instead of using it as a new learning. I agree that parents need to monitor their children for their children to grow right, but the monitoring shouldn't be restrictive to a point of hiding emotions or being secretive with parents. Both the parents and child should have a mutual understanding to mature better and let the child learn through their own mistakes. Limiting a child's learning makes them who they are in the future.
