Trends are one of the most influential movements affecting people who are exposed to social media and other substantial access to a wide range of knowledge are affected by trends more than anyone else. Trends create a tendency towards a specific move, sometimes these trends can be harmless but often they may be small trends though creates incremental changes to someones lives. We observe dangerous lifestyle trends, particularly with regard to the popular body types. Being skinny is one of the most disastrous trends that keeps coming back. The major drawbacks to all these widespread trends specifically micro trends is the inability to stay permanent which leads to one of the most important positive macro trends, sustainability. Sustainability, now a concept engraved into almost everyone and industries now adhere to the idea of sustainability, despite the fact that many microtrends in fashion and our way of life, which are frequently fleeting, discard this idea.

Positively, I do enjoy seeing new trends rising specifically in fashion, viewing what’s currently in season and what people view as fashionable is intriguing. Sometimes I do foster and join into the trends if I really do enjoy it or think its worthwhile and would not seem tacky in a few upcoming months. Another positive point of trends is that sometimes its small designers and artists creating these micro trends which gives those designers and artist exposure to a larger range of people. If micro trends are risen this way I do support the rising trends. Most importantly, if those trends micro or macro does not harm people or the environment negatively, I believe trends can create huge positive improvements and fun to everyday inspirations.

Trends have personally influenced my personal style through the incorporation of what is the latest trends that I enjoy and view as aesthetic or timeless since my personal style which I most often gravitate towards is more clean and classic silhouettes and designs.

Key themes: Individuality, Identity, Making Change

Relationship between fashion, subcultures, trends and music: All three factors are constantly influencing each other, especially through the timelines displayed in the museum

Why is fashion so closely related to ideas about identity?

Fashion is very exterior, its an expression of yourself from within to the outside, fashion showcases your interest your personalities which are all connected to identity. In many of the designers rationale seen in the museum their garments are inspired by their cultural background or just their lives in general, they tell their stories through these garments whether intentional or not, fashion communicates a message from the designer of ideas or concepts they want to display. One designer mentioned fashion is like an escape.

In what ways has the exhibition expanded the way you think about fashion and its history, politics, culture?

Its fascinating to see how fashion can so subtly but also expressively convey messages witihin history, politics and culture through fabric, silhouettes and designs. Before I read the rationale of the designer I didn't understand the inspirations or influences though after reading I can piece together how the designer cleverly incorporates the three ideas in their work which is very well done making their work very powerful.

Which subcultures are presented in the exhibition?

1980's new romantics

Demographics of people visiting the exhibition

Lots of fashion students, middle aged people

His 2019 menswear collection conceptually embeds looks of Brutualist inner-city estates he saw as a teenager in Brixton and Welllingborough. He staged the show with Black performers struggling through tanks of water, a reference of migration crisis hitting the UK.

For the Marylebone task, my group had mostly worked all together going to research the area and discuss the work. We all went to the area at the same time to make group work a lot easier and smoother, we went around taking images and also along the way discussing what aspects we had to cover for the task.

Personally, I have contributed quite a lot to the slides, I have created the demographics slides, stores and architecture slides. My group was very supporting with sending pictures to our instagram groupchat for those images to be added into the slides.

I have supported my group through communicating within our instagram groupchat, specifically about what work needed to be done and kind of breaking up who’s doing what slide. When those questions were asked on what topics are left, I was able to support my groupmates by answering their queries. When there were some spots that was uncovered I had written or given my part to them and they added more information, this allowed our team to feel cohesive and to further understand each slide individually and together.
