This week we practiced the guitar and piano. We also worked on Soundtrap and it was really cool because we made music and saw the way a song can come out. At the beginning, we recorded 5 notes on logic pro. Where it took us was to play with the beats and play around with sound trap. We also listened to people who inspire us to play. The people who inspired me is Ed Sheeran and Prince Royce, and it's obvious because they play the guitar and I do to. When you listen to the beat and when they strum, you can actually hear the chord changes. Performing the songs you like make you want to learn more and more.

~Alicia C.

Monday - Tuesday:The class did a listening peace to show what or whom inspire them. We had to listen to a pianist or guitarist music and point out what in particular helps us to understand how to play and to look back at it when we need to know something. who inspire me personally are Mozart and Tchaikovsky. Wednesday the class had the time to expirence the website called soundtrap.com where we can make our own remix dubstep like music for a few days. Thursday we the class continued on playing the piano/ or guitar.

I also mastered to play brother john on the piano.

-Azi M.

9/28 - 10/2

During our time in Performance Skills, we have been doing many things. We have been playing the piano and the guitar and also going on the computer to work on Soundtrap. In the beginning, some of us were re-learning stuff lost from 7th grade while others were learning for the first time. I personally realized I sill know how to play "Heart and Soul" as well as "Twinkle Twinkle" on the piano and enjoyed playing around with the keys. During the Listening part of our assignment, we had to listen to pianists/guitarists who inspired us. The pianists who inspired me are Yiruma, Fritz Kreisler, and Claude Debussy who play with a love for the instrument that is rare nowadays. People may learn to be a master at something at different rates, but no one becomes a master in one day. There is no replacement for time and hard work.

~Xiomara R.

Throughout this week I learned many things in this class, not just from the teachers, I also learned from many of the other students. Throughout the week I learned the piano, since I play this instrument in the class instead of guitar. Reason I choose piano is because I find it easier plus I played it more then a couple years ago and I was really looking forward into playing it again. I tried guitar over the summer and it was just difficult for me. I had a hard time learning, from only myself and videos, my fingers hurt because they weren't used to the strings. When I see guitar players in this class I'm proud of them and amazed how they can play it so easily. Anyways, through the week I learned more of the piano and notes. I'll give you a few examples, I learned of the treble clef and bass clef, I'm getting use to the notes again and I'm so happy and excited because I want to be the best pianist I can be. I learned of how only with the bass clef you play with your left hand. Then with the treble clef you only play with your right hand with the notes. I also learned a song, happy birthday, I'm glad I have it down now, it took me a couple class. But I finally have it. Now I'm working on the song, the saints come marching in. Hopefully if I keep up the work and continue on practicing slowly, by taking my time. I can get it down like happy birthday. After that I can learn new songs that are even harder. We watched videos, that inspired us to be better then we are and we can accomplish our dreams. They talked about a few artists and they were really talented. We visited a few websites like schoology and sound trap, we also recorded ourselves on the computer and so that way at the end of the year we can listen to it again and see how we improved.

One artist that inspires me is Matthew Healy from the band the 1975, I like the song girls. You can really hear the guitar.

By: Kyra L.

What the class did throughout the week was really fun and cool. We went on sound trap and created different pieces by combining sounds we chose. That was our harmony. To create our melody, we went on logic pro and then downloaded it to sound trap so we can create music where ever we go. We also did a listening activity. we had to pick two different songs with completely different genres and we had to describe their dynamics, their changes in tempo or dynamics and their instruments used in each song. I picked a country song and a hip-hop song. The last thing we did this week was we practiced a piece we want to play. Then when we are comfortable about the piece, we will play it in front of the whole class. I learned and created a lot of new things and had a lot of fun doing it.

By: Thomas C
