When this air moves faster the air pressure decreases. The difference between the air pressure on the top versus the bottom of the wing creates a force that pushes the wing (and the rest of the plane) into the air. Simple? Well, in those days it would have taken ages to figure that out. For example, take an everyday object like a teapot (the electronic ones). Do you know how they work? Because of the heat, part of the teapot expands when it's hot enough and the whole thing powers down.
