"Everybody thought he was going to die..." (Hurst; 169)

Doodle was hardworking because, despite everyone thinking he would die, he learned to run, swim, and climb. He never gave up and when he wanted to his brother would give him extra strength so he could keep fighting and overachieve even though he still was lesser. His brother kept him moving and turning so that even their mother and father would be surprised.

"Taking off his cap, he placed it over the muzzle of the rifle. Then he pushed the rifled up slowly upward over the parapet, until the cap was visible from the opposite side of the street... a bullet pierced the center of the cap... the cap slipped... he dropped his left hand over the roof lifelessly.. His ruse had succeeded." (O'Flaherty; 113)

The Sniper was very clever, because in-order to trick somebody of that caliber, he had to be smart and have a fast mind. He caught the opposing sniper off guard, and once he was in the sights of the sniper, he was as dead as the Grim Reaper. He had to think fast, keep a cool head, and be strategic so he can catch the opposing sniper off guard.
