The name Olari is the plural form of Olar, which means potter in the language of Romanian. There are 8 variants of the name, all originating in the country of Romania.

The occupation of a potter was as common as a smith in past centuries. This makes it difficult to pinpoint an exact genealogical origin. Consequently among Romanians, having the surname "Olar" does not mean they descended from the same ancestral village. Meaning not all Olari's have the same ancestors.

In 1981, my father-in-law fled Communist Romania by swimming across the Danube River, leaving his pregnant wife, and son behind, hoping to find a better life in America. He was able to receive a Visa as a political refugee from Yugoslavia to get to America. He flew to Chicago and about a year later, was able to get the rest of his family in to the States. Not long after, they moved to Phoenix and reside here ever since.
