Watching video about minorities' firsthand experiences was eye-opening, and really impacted me. The second takeaway was that reverse racism does not exist. I used to believe that white people could be racist towards black people. But I learned how it is not possible. The third takeaway is how important ethnic studies is and its benefits for students. It should be available at more schools. It is important for students to not just learn white history, but also black, Hispanic, Asian, etc History. 
2. The first way is to include literature in my classroom that is inclusive to all cultures, races, genders, etc. so that ALL my students can feel seen and valued. The second way is to eliminate all my stereotypes or preconceptions, because they can be harmful. 
3.  I don't think there is anything that can be improved upon in this course. I enjoyed watching all the videos, films, reading articles, etc. They helped me get a deeper understanding of the importance of ethnic studies. I really grew a lot and learned a lot from it. The only thing I would say, is for the cultural event project, if there could have been a virtual option. I chose, No, David! by David Shannon because my mom used to read this book to my brothers and I all the time, growing up. We would always crack up when reading it. 
2. I checked the first criteria which is to check the illustrations and see if there are any stereotypes or tokenism in the illustrations. I did not see any, the only person illustrated in the story was David who is white. The second criteria I checked for is lifestyles. David seems to live in a typical white suburban home. Since the story is solely about David, we don't get to see how other people are depicted. The third criteria I checked for is the authors perspective. This book is written based on David Shannon's experiences and his shenanigans when he was little. I would say this book does not weaken another group, since this about his experience. The last criteria I checked for is to consider the effects on children's self-image and I would say that I could see how a girl would not be able to relate to it, since David is a boy. However, I feel like anyone can relate to getting in trouble from their mom. 
3. After checking the four criteria's, I would still read this book in my classroom. Although it does not represent African Americans, Hispanics or other races, it does not put those races down or weakens them. Of course, I would make sure to include other books where they are represented.
