         <title>The Monroe Doctrine - 1823</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>The Monroe Doctrine told European nations that the U.S. would not interfere with their problems, and that the Western Hemisphere was closed from being expanded into by European Powers, and that this land was only for the U.S. to acquire and no one else. This would be significant as this idea would be discussed on again in future events such as the spanish-American War in Cuba.</div>]]></description>

         <title>The Compromise of 1850 - 1850</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>This compromise made California a free state that would not allow for slavery. But it also added that states that were just newly acquired by the United States would have the choice to pick if they are anti-slavery or pro-slavery states. This compromise would be significant as it would allow the choice for states to pick which side they would take on the topic of slavery. This would foreshadow the future of fighting over the topic of slavery.</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>This was a fight between pro-slavery and anti-slavery states which resulted in violent outbreaks in Kansas territory. The reason these battles were fought was over the topic of making Kansas be a slave state or not. These battles were significant because they would start the battles and violence taking place over the debate of slavery which would lead to the Civil War, the bloodiest battle of them all.</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Dred Scott was purchased into a free state and so he assumed into freedom but unfortunately he was taken into court because he came back to a slave state and so the argument between returning back into a slave state makes you a slave again or not. This case was significant because it made the Missouri Compromise unconstitutional and began the debate on slavery which would then be discussed more and fought over in the Civil War. </div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>The first home battle between the Union and the separated Confederate States of America. After the Confederates decided to leave the Union under the disagree about slavery.  With this disagreement came violence the war began. The South sought independence from the rest of the country as it believed slavery should exist in all states. BUt the North disagreed. The union won and reunited the South with the North. This war was significance because it resurfaced the U.S.'s position on slavery and where African Americans stood in the U.S.'s society.</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>This was a speech given by president Lincoln during the Civil War, this speech would give us the line that "all men are created equal" and that the union must win and safe the country. LIncoln did not was the Confederates and the Union to fight and so he wanted to help recap the war as something where many people died and that it helped bring the country back together. </div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>After the Civil War the U.S. needed to mend itself back to one country and so the government created this act in order to help restore the South with aid to southerners and newly freed slaves as well. This act would help put the union back into the strengthening side and not allow for another division like that to occur. This act would be significant as it would begins the era of reconstruction for the U.S. to be whole again rather than divided in two. And it would allow for African Americans to start their journey to freedom.</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>For $7.2 million the U.S. purchased Alaska from Russia, this purchase would allow for more materials that would be vital for trade. But the main focus of purchasing this land was so that England couldn't buy it instead. The U.S. wanted to keep  European powers out of North and South America and so it influenced the expansion in Alaska. This purchase was significant because it stopped the expansion of European powers spreading and expanding in North America as there was not more land to expand to. </div>]]></description>

Creating the telephone would be significant as now communication distance would not be as big of a barrier and businesses would be able to operate better with this use of the telephone. And the telephone would then be improved again and again to this day to make the cellphone which is a large part of the 21st century.</div>]]></description>

But once someone threw a bomb killing 8 people the protest turned into a riot and became very violent. This riot was significant because it set back labor unions being very successful as now the unions would be seen as violent and destructive instead of being peaceful in order to get the changes workers want. </div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>The Dawes Act was passed by President Cleveland and it was an act to break up tribal lands and make native americans more "human". The U.S. government wanted to convert the native americans into the U.S. society. With this they sent Native American children to school, encouraged them to practice farming. However this act also divided the native american tribe lands into individual plots of land. This act was significant as it was the start if assimilation of Native American to white culture and bring in the idea of giving them something for U.S. citizenship. </div>]]></description>

Workers would boycott against unsafe working conditions, low wages, they were controlled by strong leaders and many people worked for conditions that were unworkable. This strike was significant because it demonstrated the power of labor unions and how they can be a strong force against unfair employers that exploited their powers.</div>]]></description>

At the end of the trial, African Americans were given that racial segregation would not stop the Constitutional rights of people. And so they were given "separate but equal". This was significant because it would continue the fight for African Americans to be seen as equal to white.</div>]]></description>

With the want to have their own land and govern it the Cubans asked for aid from the Americans so help them get Spanish out of their land. The U.S. won and aquired a lot of land to add to their exapansionism. This war was significant as it spread the U.S. to western land in the Pacific and it made the U.S. stand out as a bigger national power as they could take over territory from big nations like Spain.</div>]]></description>

With this canal the U.S. would to imperialise and create a better route for trade. This is significant because it makes the U.S. a larger power in the world and it allowed the U.S. to create a bigger trade industry for them as they will have shorter distance to travel with materials.</div>]]></description>
