A skill that I acquired/improved during the course is to be more in the present moment, which is something I have been working on this past year and I feel that I have made a lot of progress. The meditation in the forest and the whole day on the boat helped me with that.

Also, I learned to be more flexible when dealing with new situations, such as for example the water cuts. I have become better at accepting things that I cannot change and just trying to see what I can do.

Moreover, I learned a lot about the food and the fauna here, which I found very interesting. We made a salad with a Christophine, I tried Accras, flan de coco and poulet Colombo.

On the whole, the course has been great and I was able to experience many new and exciting things, which I am very grateful for. Thank you to all the participants and thank you, Rita!

My favorite experience of all was the day on the boat :)

During this course I learned more than I expected. The course made me more aware of values and especially my own three main values. At first I thought some activities were not for me, like yoga and meditating. Indeed I learned why these activities are helpful for being mindful (instead of mind full). I need to improve skills for enjoying things in the moment and for taking time to meditate, but this week I made a pretty good start. Also, I’m going to be more in the nature at home. Walks in the park, taking swims in open water, and make my house an even bigger jungle with plants than it already is.

“One of the major reasons music therapy is so effective is that music can shift your focus away from a stressful or uncomfortable event to something pleasant and soothing” (Amy Di Nino)

This is a quote from the booklet abouy music as therapy. It’s a lesson I will keep in mind while doing my job. For me, but also for my students who sometimes feel anxious or stressed.

It’s difficult to choose one favorite activity, but I’m going with the boat day. In the water I improved my skill to be in the moment and to enjoy small things. There was no time for thoughts other than happy ones about where we were and what we were doing.

I have learned to be more present in the here and now. By meditating, you use your senses more consciously, it calms your mind and heart rate. I have also learned more about the culture and nature of Guadeloupe. Sometimes things in life or a place change, not always for the better, but often they do. Acceptance and letting go of things you cannot control, and being curious, taking on new challenges, and staying connected with yourself and others are things you learn in Guadeloupe!🙏🦀😎🐠🐚🌴🦎🦋🌱🏖⛈️🍹

This course was very useful in gaining insight into the importance of healthy and fit teachers. We have been given a lot of tools to achieve this. I learned yoga, forest bathing and blue mind. This had a good effect on my mood and I feel very rested. Nature and culture have that influence on me. I will explore this further at school when I get home.

I am very thankful for the last week and all the experiences I made. Above all for the opportunities to really try new things and find out what I need – and all that in a save space. In every moment I had the feeling, that there are people around me who let me make my experiences but also look above me. Thanks for that!

The skill I acquired most is to make a basket out of a palm sheet. Maybe I won’t need that skill in Austria in the future, but out of that I recognized that while doing something with my hands, my mind gets calm. I don’t know yet, how to implement this in my life, but I am open to that.

Consciously new knowledge includes three points:
- connection is very important for resilience
- fake it till you feel it – the more grateful you act, the more grateful you get.
- a 2-hour forest bath will help you to unplug from tehnology and slow down.

My most favourite experiences where the day in the rain forest and the snorkeling trip on the boat. For me, forest remembers me where I come from. And so I get rooted and calm down.
And water gets my soul calm down. Through snorkeling experience I got in a ne wunder-water-world, that makes my life and my worries so small.
Those to moments I want to implement more in my life – get more green and blue 😊

The course helped me to rediscover many things from a new perspective, for example, being in the forest, doing exercise or doing handicraft. These are all things I already do, but the input I received during the course intensified the experience. In the future, talking a walk in the forest, for instance, will not only be moving my body but an opportunity to meditate, to be in the moment and to recharge.

Moreover, I learned to be aware of the little things and also be grateful for them - being happy about what you have right in front of you and enjoying the moment instead of looking back and worrying about what is to come. What I want to continue after the course as well is the „What did you learn today“-reflection - I found that extremely helpful with seeing the „little things“ I mentioned earlier.

The course’s activities also reminded me how important good scaffolding and support is for discovering new things - not only for myself but also for my teaching practice. True learning can only happen when you feel safe and not forced towards anything, but are encouraged in a respectful and caring way. In that regard, I also realized that very often, I do things on my own because it seems easier or less complicated, but throughout the course, there were several situations where teamwork made such a huge difference. I enjoyed being part of such a great group and making great memories!

There are many things I learned from this course: that I have to catch more sleep to stay healthy. Normally I take 5 hours of sleep at night and that's not healthy; I did a lot of things that were out of my comfort zone: yoga, mindfulness and making a basket from palm leaves. Because of my ADHD, I think I'll try mindfulness at home to make things clear in my head and try to feel more at ease; I learned a lot of the environment: how important mangroves are for the eco system; I learned the importance of gratitude and I will try to enrich it when I return home: gratitude is the single best predictor of well being and good relationships; finally I learned that they serve the best Pina Colada's at 1 Rhumerie des Pirates 2 Kontiki 3 Le Nile (depends on who prepares it).
