I think poverty exist due to many variables and can not be narrowed down to just one. Some of these variable could include: geography, family wealth, motivation, access to education, and natural talent.

There is no single cause of poverty, it can strike during an unexpected crisis: a serious health problem, job loss, or divorce. These crises can be influenced by other risk factors such as low education, limited skills training, lack of savings, or lack of family supports.
-Cassidy Borges

I believe poverty exists because it can result from personal struggles and they are lacking support financially, emotionally and/or physical. Also, it could be a factor of low education or low skill training and are therefore not able to continue an education because of the low education and not being able to save enough money for school.
-Sarah Walton

In my opinion poverty breeds poverty, or at least for the large majority. Coming from a family in poverty it is much harder to access education and create social connections needed to improve ones place in life. People may need to leave school early to help support the family etc. Currently we do not have a culture that really allows for people to improve themselves though it is getting better with increased grants for education, welfare and unemployment.
Hope Turpin
