Hello everyone! My name is Rachel Colman. My program of study at Angelo State University is Mental Health and Wellness Counseling, M.A. One personal goal I have in sight for myself is have a productive moving experience as I move from Denton, Texas to Mansfield, Texas in a couple of weeks. One professional goal I have for myself is to not only finish my academic program, but to also take the LPC Bridge course ASU offers. Ultimately, I want to learn more about trauma and crisis coping mechanisms from this course and feel more confident in my intended field! Nice to meet everyone!

In preparation for the introduction discussion post, I read through the materials provided as resources as well as completed the "Test your knowledge" quizzes. My biggest takeaway from completing the introduction was a reinforcement that mental health challenges are never-ending, and impact a large amount of people. Additionally, I was surprised to see that I did not score great on the quizzes, but that is the reason I'm in school! Looking forward to the rest of the semester!

The Reference Guide for Mental Disorders was a tedious assignment as it covered a vast amount of information, but I truly learned more and gained more confidence in this topic! I greatly enjoyed learning more about the eating disorder and depression sections, mainly because I find these topics to be very interesting and substantial.

I thoroughly enjoyed this discussion! For my documentary, I chose to watch "Athlete A" via Netflix about the USA Gymnastics sexual assault allegations and lack of response. The documentary was incredible, and I felt showed how impactful sexual trauma can be. The featured gymnasts showed signs of distress and intense emotion when talking about their abuse. Overall, I loved the documentary and I applaud the Indianapolis Star for bringing such an important story into the light!
