My goal as a school counselor is to provide a space to work with kids that is both inviting and also safe. An environment in which they can come, and we can work together wot help them build the life they see for themselves, which may be very different than what they are currently living. I want to work with staff, students, parents, and the community to break down barriers that stand in the way of youth and work to promote programs that can create potential avenues for building new success. I want to work with the children that may be missed and strive to help them become the people they were always meant to be. This includes not only academically, but also social and familiar structuring as well.

“All students have the right to access a school counseling program that prepares them for the future and promotes equity and access for all (ASCA, 2021).” Utilizing ethical standards ensures a checks and balance, but allows for guidance in the gray areas and keeps every performing their duties properly.

(b.) After scoring myself in this area, I found that I could explain the organizational structure and governance but scored low in explaining the system and philosophies.

(c.) The area around development of policy and procedure has always been an area I have struggled with, which is why I can see myself scoring low here. I can follow procedures and policy, understand how to read them, but the process of development is an area that I know I could work on.

B-SS 1- Design and Implement Instruction aligned to the ASCA Mindset & Behaviors for Student Success in large-group, classroom, small-group and individual settings

(e.) Create lesson plans, standards to be addressed and how data will be addressed (ASCA, 2019). I think a lot of my low scoring is not based in my understanding, but in my confidence to complete those activities at this point in my education. This is a new field of study; I am constantly second guessing myself on if I will be able to create such plans. Especially to hold the most benefit for the students and staff using these plans.

(f). “Use a variety of technologies in the delivery of lessons and activities (ASCA, 2019).” Technology and the use of delivery is certainly not my strong suit. Again, there are the questions about what technologies, how much should be used as opposed to more hands-on etc.
