- Enter the classroom quietly

- Collect Class Materials including: something to write with, something to write on, and any materials students are told to need for the day's lesson. 
- Sit down quietly with all required materials
- Begin the activator.

This is a really effective if it is practiced EVERY SINGLE CLASS. Students will follow this if you stay consistent in this routine. Have students discover the answers to this question by acting out different registers! On small strips of paper write down a few examples of tone of voices. Then have students choose one from a hat and act it out!

Make the registars as relevant as possible! For example:

A Kardashian
Patrick Star
A surfer dude
A cave person
Donald Trump (careful!)
Cardi B
Kanye West

This will be super silly but after students have fun with these examples pose the question, "What does a scientist sound like? What does a scientist write like?"

This will lead to conclusions like "no emotion" "uses big words/uses science vocabulary" "no pronouns" and "uses lots of detail/evidence"
