The first way is pattern. I made long and wavy lines because my song makes me calm and relaxed and soothes me. The second way is color. This might sound dumb, I just get a blue and brownish-green vibe from the song. In my coil pot, I included a heart arch with thorns on it to represent the love in the song being crushed by the violence the couple was going through. I also wrote some of the song lyrics on the top of the pot to show viewers the main point of my song. I also carved in the letters ABC because the title of my song is writings on the wall and ABC is like writings and my pot is like the wall. I also carved in the initials S.S because the artist of my song’s name is Sam Smith. I wanted to make my pot red like a heart and the piece in front of my pot is supposed to be a carved piece in the wall sort of like a distortion in the wall because the term writings on the wall is a creepy term in the case of the song and I wanted to show a creepy/distorted piece in my pot.

I chose this shape because it is an uphill battle but also one you reach the “top” you can see all the complications overcame. One line that stood out to me from the song was “And I'll rise up. High like the waves” so wrapped around the bottom of the pot are waves. The waves represent obstacles overcome and that even though there are high waves they don’t reach the top. I did the waves as blue but I outlined them in a darker blue to show the strength of waves (obstacles). The pot itself is an ombre from dark yellow to bright yellow. I chose yellow because it has good contrast with blue but also because it represents achievement well.

Some lyrics in my song are “My head’s underwater and I’m breathing fine”, “Your perfect imperfections”, and “Cards on the table”. This all are keywords in the song that tell a lot about what the song is about. I used the “heads under water” phrase and painted water and seaweed. I also took the “perfect imperfections” phrase and applied that to the underwater phrase. What I did was draw some fish on my pot that were different and imperfect, but they still looked colorful. Then I took the cards phrase and drew cards in the water. The color represents the slow and steadiness of the song. I even put calm waves on the top to paint this mood. The green seaweed represents the love of the singer trying to reach through this blue water to the peaceful island on top.

The  mood of my song seemed peaceful and happy so I decided to use warm colors like, yellow, red, and orange. I included a sunset on my pot because that also represents happiness to me. The sculpture is also a vase. It has a waterfall going down the center with rocks that are holes for flowers in the top. There are rocks lining the waterfall and there is some shrubbery on the sides of it. The back has no texture and will be painted black. I chose to focus on texture and color. The texture of the waterfall is a ton of little lines that are carved into the water. I chose this texture because the words are all separate instead of flowing together. I also made the bushes full of texture and the rocks banged up because it is a fast paced song. When I do the colors, (besides the black, textureless side) I will make them bright. I will do this to emphasize that the song is light and happy.

The pot represents the song because I used angel wings to represent the angel watching over her, and a halo that protects her from evil. I used texture with the wings and halo by making the stick out off the pot. I also believe I used color because my song was deep and made me think of starry nights, but when the angel comes to protect her the dark skies turn bright. Imagery was also a very important aspect of my pot because the song made me think of lots of things I could do with my pot. I love my pot and how it turned out!

Apparently, a couple has broken up and in memory of their relationship stays a photograph. My mediums of representation are form and color. The shape stands for the visual imagery of a camera, which relates to a photograph, one of the main ideas of the song. The colors symbolize the melancholy of this dead relationship but also how their love for each other might still be existent. So I painted most of the sculpture in colors often regarded as “sad”: blue, black, and dark purple. To represent the small spark that might still be existent, I painted the top and back of the camera yellow, more of a joyful color. And lastly, the combination of all these color choices creates a rather smooth visual effect, relating to the flow and calmness of the song.

The two elements that I was really focusing on was color and form/shape. For the base of my coil pot it was a mountain because in the lyrics, it says “move mountains” a bunch of times before the main chorus and this expressed the form/shape of the coil pot because I was trying to use the form/shape of the coil pot to represent certain lyrics in the song. The form of the coil pot was showing the huge obstacle that everyone experiences before reaching any goal. The mountain was painted an ombre of black to gray and at the top there is purple. This is because the black shows how it all starts cause you are at that stage where all you want is to reach your goal and the ombre of gray shows how even after baby steps, you are closer to your goal and the purple at the very top shows how happy you are when you reach your goal because purple is my favorite color and I interpret purple as a happy color. On my mountain, it was mostly dark colors to really show the hard times. I also used the two elements color and form/shape on my steps going up my mountain as spikes.The steps were spikes which was because it showed that even along the way of baby steps, you will continue to reach obstacles. The color of the steps were rainbow patterned because my mountain was painted as the obstacle (black ombre) and the steps were representing the happy moments and to show that you should never give up.
