Taking art gives you the chance to express yourself creatively. We are given choices about what kind of media, subject matter, & more on the artwork we do. It can be very labour intensive, but the pay off is extremely satisfying. The 8 hour art exam is usually split into several sections, and it really doesn't feel like any time at all.

In the Form 3 Visual Arts course you'll explore how to use different types of media as well as develop a creative way of thinking that will help you to form more solid ideas, to learn how to present your work and make original pieces that reflect your emotions as well as the relevant topics. From the themes you'll study: 'At the table' and 'Identity', you'll learn to analyse the work of other artists as well as evaluate your own in order to improve and grow to develop your skills and technique. The Form 3 art course will be a solid start and provide you with the skills you will be taking with you, not only to prepare you for your exams but also in using throughout the next years, either when you choose to take the GCE or DSE art course.

In Form 3 and Form 4, i think i singlehandedly had the most fun I could ever have had in one subject, looking forward to every art lesson as if it were a gift. I used to run up the stairs as I couldn't wait to see the next creative challenge Art had installed for me. My teachers Ms Heung, Ms Morin and Ms King made each and every lesson the most lively and fun interactive experience that a student of YHKCC could ever dream of, the benefit of taking arts are countless, not only do you train you in hand-eye coordination but also you learn to be passionate, creative and also unleash your inner spirit out on paper, with colours. Representing a part of who you are, and showcasing your inhibition. I found Art to be a way to release stress and unload all my feelings and emotions after a stressful period of time at school.

Some concerns you may have as a potential art student may be the worry of time management or the thought of a 4-hour or 8-hour exam may be daunting, however, it isn't all that bad as it may have been spelt out in recent years. In form 3 I remember having miss King as my art teacher and I remember always putting all my energy and capacity into each task as I wanted to "prove myself" or to seek "validation" from my peers. However now I truly understand the meaning of Art; the freedom of expressing yourself by any means possible. There are no limitations.

Taking art as compared to all other elective subjects is truly a unique experience as you are able to express your creativity when choosing your own topics to explore and develop, as well as being able to experiment with a variety of mediums. Although it is time consuming, when looking at the final outcome along with all of your sheets put together, you will feel as though all your hard work payed off. For all creative fields in the future when applying for universities or even jobs you are able to use your artwork to showcase your abilities. You will have a long exam that is split up across 2-3 days but honestly the time itself will fly by so quickly, while other subjects will need to study hard for one other exam you will not need to so that's an additional benefit. Humans need to be creative and by choosing art you are fostering a healthy mental environment by studying for your other subjects, as well as doing manual artwork which can be relaxing to many students. I would highly encourage you all to choose either GCE or DSE art as the experience will be unforgettable and the connection you will develop with your teachers (who are incredibly helpful when coming up with unique ideas, given their experience) is something that not all subjects have.
