What I've learnt from the activity we've done so far in regards to our chosen news article, as well as the utilization of a specific tool that analyzes the importance, weight or importance of the news, allowed me to see that some factors are taken more in to consideration that makes a news worthier to be placed higher in a publication. Furthermore, the stance the publication takes upon writing a specific controversy, idea or event, greatly affects how it would be released in the public, thus greatly influencing the perception of many audiences about the idea, controversy or event a publication with either a liberal or conservative stance addresses.

Furthermore, it is very interesting that regardless of the gravity of the news that is being portrayed, there are still many more factors affects a news worthiness according to Harcup and O'neill's analysis tool. Despite the global importance of some news that are being published such as the news that I was exploring which was about Global warming, I realized that some news that were the headlines of the publication has an elite individual that is involved within the news and seems to overshadow the importance of the news I was exploring. This outcome completely shows how the factor (Elite individuals) in the Harcup and O'neill's tool allows some news to be at the top of the publication and some news to be completely overshadowed.

The story we explored was the controversial topic of teaching young pupils identity politics. Through the articles, political bias is prevalent thus provoking an objective view which influences the reader. It was interesting to see how a liberal news source, BBC, had a more open perspective, with a liberal viewpoint while Premier, a conservative news source had a more one sided perspective with a conservative viewpoint.
Each article presented their evidence based on their ideologies. This was evident as each news source cherry picked quotes and presented different arguments which was on the basis of their ideologies and personal stances. In a way, this solidifies their argument furthermore swaying the reader and persuading them.
From this, I have come to the understanding how a news story is more appealing to individuals depending on the amount of news values it has. Depending on the amount of news values the story holds, the more reception it gets.

From the exploration of my news story, I have come to an understanding of how the way news is reported. News values play a heavy role on the way that news is portrayed, and news agencies often present their findings based off of their ideologies. An example of how news agencies implement their values in the presentation of news, is examples of liberal and conservative agencies. A liberal agency often has aims to entice a liberal audience and as a result bases the information presented in a liberal view point. A conservative news agency will do the same in turn and base information presented as a conservative view point.

The ideologies of media agencies also contribute to media bias. Media bias is seen heavily through out news platforms. I have often seen that one story may have 2 completely different directions. The way news is presented is heavily influenced by the personal agenda's of news agencies, Fox new's will not have and report news regarding Donald Trump as CNN would, as the two agencies differ in agenda's, and their stances on the political spectrum.

This makes me a little more cynical of the news that I read because I feel that even if I am reading an objective news source, there is always a slight political bias behind it.

When news is published or reported, whether it be by BBC or the New York times, there is always a bias or opinion that is weaved and expressed within the article where it is posted. For example, a publisher such as the Huffington Post will usually express the truth first and then follow a structure which at the end of their response gives their opinionated stance on the topic at hand. Even the images used in an article can reveal their true thoughts as during my own research i found that the Huffington post used positive images portraying Shamima Begum as an innocent Human being and mother who is entitled to be helped in getting back to her country of origin, the UK, rather than BBC News who have used images which portray Shamima as a grim faced criminal who is guilty of joining Isis and abandoning the rest of her family who currently reside in the UK.

News is published and looked at based on the amount of clicks it will generate or the revenue it will get. The more dramatic stories are front and center, such as tragedies, or gossip. Joe Biden's possible run in 2020 is a good example. Because of all the gossip of "will he, won't he?", it is able to generate interest and speculation, and thus is at the top of the news cycle regarding politics and the 2020 US election. News also tends to focus on big names, and stories or occurrences & groups that support their political & ideological agenda, and may air news pieces and events that reflect their values, while significantly censoring or curtailing news events that may align with a different perspective.

Through the extensive use of specific analytical tools, I was able to confirm my preconceived notion that the use of celebrity and mass appeal for outweighs ethical stance. An example could be how McGregor smashing a phone outweighs the death of an Ethiopian politician. This example clearly agrees with my hypothesis as McGregor being deemed a 'celebrity' due to his massive following would fare outweigh the death of a politician, despite it being perceived as more ethical.

News values have a huge impact on what is published in the papers, magazines, live news and other articles. News articles are always trying to attract new and old audiences and they do this by using news values as they are the key to creating a popular news article. Values such as surprise, continuity, frequency, elite nations and more are examples of News Values. My news story was "Stephen Hawking's death" and this created a lot of attention as he was an inspiration to many people. As he was looked up at by millions he was considered an elite individual and evidently a celebrity. Other aspects such as surprise and bad news built more attention and attracted audiences to read about the tragic death.

News is portrayed in a way that attracts an audience. News reporters tend to choose the perspective/story that would gain the most media attention. This is also achieved through utilizing public figures and celebrities to maximize media attention. Authors tend to prioritize the news which will provoke attention from an audience. It is not necessarily the most drastic, global threatening news which will gain the front cover or front page. There is a certain set of criteria which the production of news is based upon. This criteria is abundantly associated with the factors which would entice the audience the most.

The most interest aspect of this article was how it was chosen as the "top story" over many other news story on CNN.
This depicts the current interest of the generation and the type of news people are interested in, displaying how the public cares more about celebrities and gossip, over war and deaths.

Media platforms are able to shape the way the public perceives news, and could also direct their interests. As it is likely for people to click on trending news, in order to be involved in conversations throughout the day, or not to feel confused on insta.

Through the examination of an incident published in two separate media outlets, it was prevalent that there are multiple aspects that impact the presentation of the news. This is most evident through the news agenda, in which a publication can focus on certain aspects that fit the agenda of an organisation. The incident that was explored was the story of actor Jussie Smollet staging an attack that was fueled by racist and homophobic ideologies. The first conservative news outlet explored was Time magazine, which utilized this occasion to push forth the need for gun control in Chicago. Similarly, the Huffington Post publication completely disregarded the fact that this was a staged attack, rather concentrating on what celebrities in hollywood thought.

After finishing the task, and searching through my friend's tasks, mass appeal was a tremendous way, in getting the audience interested in what's being presented. mass appeal such as a big celebrity, was a much bigger attraction than a war. This is due to people gravitating towards seeing their favorite celebrities getting involved in problems, or big dramas, rather than hearing about horrible news connected to unknown people. In my task I talked about Zinedine Zidane joining Real Madrid, this news exploded as it had a huge figure in Real Madrid, and a famous celebrity in Zidane. The article was the top news story in many publications, some who don't cover sports at all. Another aspect I had come upon was, the way different publications, talked about the same news.
