In October of 2014, the media states that Tony Abbott has come out and stated that he does not support the burqa and admitted he finds it confronting. What he says is quite ironic considering what he is wearing. The cartoonist finds it cynical and has decided to mock Tony; This is also seen in his facial features which make him identifiable, by his ears and nose. What Tony is wearing is an iconic outfit he is seen wearing in satirical cartoons and sketches. The statement that was said in the cartoon, was actually quoted. The woman in the cartoon is very covered up, whilst Tony is very bare and showing a lot of skin. The statement is discriminatory and otherwise seen as racism, as he associates the burqua with terrorism.
- Georgina

As an Australian leader, he is taken as a joke (due to the Joker's outfit) where, he looks into his own reflection and sees himself as a king, or how the leaders are represented in England (as kings), where he looks through an English mirror, represented by the symbol on top of the mirror.

This post is showing us how technology is taking over us and how kids these days are always on their phones. A game of tip is meant to be a fun game where you run around and try to catch up to your friends and tag them so they are in. However in this post the cartoonist is showing us that they are just using their phones to play a game of tip. This is exaggerated as i don't think that i have ever seen kids playing tip on their phones in a playground. The point that he is getting across is that children are always using technology.

Obama wants to help the middle east and tries to resolve the conflict calmly. He knows that it is going to be hard but he continues to do it. Donald Trump however wants to demolish the idea of a policy and wants to focus on just the country he is living in and nothing else. The rubix cube symbolizes the policy. Obama wants to solve it unlike Trump who doesn't want anything to do with it so he just destroys it.

I found that this cartoon is expressing to its audience, of Australia that Tony Abbott is a fool that thinks he is a king. This cartoon was made of him, because he decided to bring Knighting into Australia. Many people saw this as a stupid and unnecessary thing to do, as we do not need it. The mirror was a great way to show us our view vs his view of himself. He was dressed as a king, because England is commonly known for Knighting people, whereas we aren't.

This cartoon is excellent in achieving the
message that is being portrayed here, the evolution of technology taking over
the world and stealing childhood from children. The natural background that the
children are standing in also emotionally appeals to the audience, it relates
to them as the cartoonist is trying to contrast everyone’s childhoods with this
image of childhood in the current generation. Overall a very effective and
moving cartoon greatly reflecting on its greater definition.

Through the illustrations of the cartoon, viewers are able to conclude that the cartoonist believes that children are highly influenced by mobile phones, unable to even able to play a simple game. The artist conveys to viewers that due to the effect on technology there is a loss of communication through people. Technology is a major distraction; leading people to become so lazy, to not even speak words to one another, even being in the same space. Specific details which lead me to this belief is due to the children standing all together, slightly spread and instead of playing their game of tag, running around and playing, the children stand still and text each other using their mobile devices instead of talking to one another instead of talking.

This is referring to the recent events of refugees trying to enter Australia. This carton is based the birth of Jesus Christ and saying how his journey is relevant to the one’s that refugees got through every day in order to have a better life and also by saying how that Jesus Christ was a miracle and by how it is a miracle for the refugees when they leave their country. Where Papua New Guinea is situated on the map it says “The Stable” to where the refugees were born, the boat is referred to as “The Baby” because it is based on the birth of Jesus and he was taken from the stable to the inn.
Asylum Seekers and Kevin Rudd

Asylum seekers arriving in Australia by boat are to be resettled in Papua New Guinea. As seen in the picture, Former Prime Minister of Australia Kevin Rudd is shown counting a bundle of money, standing next to the prime minister of Papua New Guinea, Peter O’Niel. The two men are standing below a large sign which reads out what would be on a monopoly Chance Card, only to have a few words and lines altered, like “Do not pass go, Do not seek Asylum in Australia”. This reflects back to 2013, when Prime Minister Kevin Rudd announced that asylum seekers who arrive by boat will have no chance of being settled in Australia as refugees. This was confirmed by the Former Prime minster of Australia, that a deal that asylum seekers will be sent to Papua New Guinea for Assessment. They would then be resettled in Papua New Guinea if they were found to be refugees. The image reflects on Rudd’s judgement as a negative move as they portray Kevin Rudd Naming Papua New Guinea as ‘Hell’ while counting a bundle of Money

Grace Kim
