I would define the word read as taking on information through looking at words and making sense of them. It is important to read as it helps to relax and helps us to learn. There are many things that someone can read. You could read a book or a poster, an article or a report and you can read a variety of different novels, fiction, non- fiction and lots of different genres such as adventure or romance. When you read you take on the things you have read. Sometimes you take on information whereas other times you may develop emotionally due to having empathy for a character or slowly waring to a character in a book. Reading can also inspire people to do a range of different activities. For example, somebody may read an exciting book about an archer and then decide to take on archery as they were inspired by the book to do so.

Reading is an important and valuable skill used in all areas of everyday life, ranging from a packet of food to a novel. Reading also allows us to expand our vocabulary, as well as our ability to express ourselves through words. Furthermore, reading allows us to sympathise with others.
You can read anything that has writing on!
