         <description><![CDATA[<div>A 4 year old typically weights about 40 lbs. They stand at around 40 inches tall. At this point, they have lost nearly at their baby fat, and have began to gain muscle. Their appearance has became more proportionate and slender. </div>]]></description>

         <title>Independence</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>At this age, children become more independent. 4 year old's are able to button and fasten large items on their clothing on their own. The video below shows a 4 year old Ryan who has learned to dress himself. He struggles a bit with buttoning but he perseveres. His technique differs from an adults , as he uses his full hand to push the button through, and the other to grab the button and pull it. Few have also began to master shoe tying. They can now begin to dress themselves. In addition, children of this age are able to use the bathroom and wash their hands on their own. </div>]]></description>

         <title>Fine Motor</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Drawing and writing is of interest to this age group. They now can use two fingers to hold a pencil or crayon. Children at this age are learning how to spell their own name as well as drawing some shapes and numbers. They have interest in drawing creatively and can create drawings of real objects and people. 4 year old's can also build pretty complex structures with blocks and Lego's.<br>The video below is a 4 year old girl creatively drawing. She is able to grasp the marker with two fingers, as well as depict real people in her drawings. <br><br></div>]]></description>

         <title>On the Playground</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>4 year old's have many fun opportunities when playing outside. They can now climb up on play structures, ladders, stairs and even trees. Monkey bars are also an option. They can now swing and reach across the monkey bars. An example is displayed by the girl below, as she swings across, one bar at a time. <br>At this age, children are also able to steer and ride tricycles and other wheeled objects. This age group can throw balls and bounce them over or underhand. They have also began the motions to jumping rope. </div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Thankfully for parents, 4 year old's can now pick up after themselves. They can clean up their toys and other objects on their own (with a few reminders from mom and dad). They can also clean themselves, as they can brush their teeth independently. </div>]]></description>

         <title>In the Field</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>RY&nbsp;swung across the monkey bars, dropping down at about half way. She quickly stood up and climbed back up to the structure to try again. &nbsp;<br><br>In this observation, I was able to recognize her ability to be able to climb the bars in the first place. When she fell, she was able to climb back on the structure to try again.&nbsp;</div>]]></description>
