According to Professor Williams the recruitment process is very tough and very intrusive.

You need to be an australian citizen and have atleast a 10 year checkable background

Applicants should expect:
-written application
-written test
-interviews
-psychological testing
-medical check
-security assessments and thorough background checks including financial records.

Your associations will also be checked so if you hang out with any unsavoury characters your chances of a gig are decreased.

Usually One in every 50 get hired for ASIO

The Australian Security Intelligence Organisation (ASIO) is Australia's national security intelligence service. ASIS staff are employed under Section 33 of the Intelligence Services Act 2001.

Although, the recruitment process and getting into the ASIO can be a competitive process. Mostly 1 in 50 people gets hired.

The qualify for this role an individual must:
- be an Australian citizen with a clean background
- have completed an undergraduate bachelor's degree before 2018
- willing to relocate to Canberra (where the cost will be covered)
- have a security check
- have a driver's licence

The selection process both examines an individual personally and professionally.

The selection process may also include:
- a written application and written test
- video questionnaire
- psychological testing
- interview assessment
- testing applicants of prohibited substances

Successful applicants will then proceed into demanding and extensive training.

This job is for individuals who are willing to relocate away from their families and friends. It is also a career for people who are looking for a change and a challenge. Although, as mentioned, not all people are suited or qualified for this. Successful applicants will go through rigorous training and will potentially live a 'double life' as they are not able to disclose any information of their job to even their families and friends.

in order to meet the criteria for an ASIO position, the applicant must be an Australian citizen, Have approval to hold and maintain a Top Secret clearance (this security clearance will involve questions about personal relationships, values, financial situation, physical, mental health and civil records), Be willing to relocate to Canberra if required, meet specific requirements e.g. degrees or qualifications, and not discuss any part of your application with anyone at all, complete discretion is required.

approximately 1 in 50 applicants get chosen to work for ASIO, this is less then the NSW Police Force.

If an applicant is found to have discussed any part of their application process with anyone other than their partner, their application will be dismissed.

Opinion - ASIO would be the perfect job for someone who keeps to themselves and enjoys a challenge. Anyone working for the ASIO, with the exception of the Director-General of Security must never publicly disclose their identities and must not discuss work with friends of family. This makes a career with ASIO unappealing to myself as my family communicate about most aspects of our lives and not being able to talk about what i do f or work would have a large impact on me. Also i believe that if you see something disturbing the best way to feel better is to talk to someone about it and not keep it bottled up and working with ASIO you would not be able to do this.
