Big Event 1- Maya learns of the event where her mother killed a man with the help of her uncles which changed Maya's perspective on Vivian

Big Event 2- Maya is raped by Mr. Freeman and goes through court. By the end of her time in St. Louis Mr. Freeman gets killed by the uncles and Maya goes mute and is eventually sent back to Stamps.
