Companies spend billions of dollars just to study people's internet habits. I think it's kind of crazy that companies are willing to spend that much money just to study people's habits. One strategy they use is doing an online search in order to personalize people's pop up ads and coupons (Ibook,page2).

Another strategy companies use is to track customer's retail establishments to learn where they spend a lot of time looking at different types of merchandise (Ibook, page 3). It was discovered that when peoples dwelling time increased, sales were also increasing as well. I found this to be interesting because just by studying cell tower signals, people are able to discover so much information.

Researches have even began studying peoples brains, while using lie scanners to determine how people truly feel about different products. There could be a huge different between what people say and how they actually feel and that's the purpose of the lie scanners. Aside from big companies, smaller companies are also studying people's spending habits as well. The smaller companies focus more on studying different zip codes. They also aim to figure out where to add more stores and they often use coupons (Ibook,page3). This will help them determine which marketing avenue are having the biggest effect on their sales.

Most of the time I prefer to order items rather than going into the store to buy them. There was a time when my decision to order was positively impacted by advertising from the store i was purchasing the items from. The app was advertising free shipping and that made me want to order something even more, instead of only considering it.
