So that people think the red coats did it on purpose. So that it look like if they did it for no reason. He lied so that the British look like bad people. Captain Preston didn’t order them to do it he lied about that he told them to hold fire and not shoot.

 I think that Paul Revere left some information out because it would make the British seem untrustworthy and cruel.
