Mr. Zico Pestalozzi, Program Manager, SUAKA NGO

In Indonesia, basically refugees can access the healthcare facility (primary/specialist, public/private) by themselves, as long as they can pay. Around 7000 are provided by the IOM, most of the independent refugee in the capital (Jakarta and surrounding area) can request health assistance to UNHCR and their implementing partner, and couple of other NGOs. That being said the capacity to the healthcare provision is very limited, is prioritized based on vulnerability of the cases.

Mr. Richard Niyonzima, Town Clerk, Bunagana Town Council

In Uganda, refugees access health services from the nearby government health facilities as other nationals. Other Social services are either accessed from the nearby facilities eg Primary Schools under UPE or some refugees are assisted by some NGOs/ programs to access the services. Eg the Refugee Law Project assists refugees to access legal aid; Windle Trust helped refugees to access higher education.

Mr. John D. Phiri, Senior Registration Assistant, Department of Refugees

So far in Malawi we have implemented livelihood programme in the camp. The programme is being implemented by Local non-governmental organization. Both refugees and Malawians are benefiting from the programme on the ratio of 40% host community and 60% Refugees. We have pig, children, goats, squirrels, mushroom production, other value addition products like sausage and yoghurt Production. The
beneficiaries are arranged in groups. They are trained in business management, open group account and keep the proceedings from the sales in the bank. They graduate after eight months. After their period has elapsed, they share the money and start their own individual businesses.

We have two irrigation scheme in the host community benefited by refugee and host community. They share the land for host community and the owners are given bags of fertiliser to assist them in farming as
well the refugees.

The second thing is that refugees are in all areas of Malawi. they are doing their business free and live in harmony with host community. Though we have encampment policy, but refugees secured jobs in various
hospitals. they are free to access treatment anywhere in Malawi. We also have Health center in the Camp that saves both refugees and host community. Due to CIVID-19 we have quarantine center for new arrivals where they are accommodated for 10 days, tested COVID-19 before discharged into the camp. Once tested positive, they are transferred to Isolation center, monitored closely until they recover. The isolation center is installed with Oxygen machine to use if situation may go waste. It accommodates both host and refugees community.

Ms Irena Mitrovska, Psychologist for asylum, migration, human trafficking, integration and more, Center for social work, Ministry of Labor and Social Policy

Asylum seekers in Skopje, North Macedonia have access to legal aid, accommodation, food, health care and psychosocial support. After 9 months of submitting an asylum application, if no decision is made, they can work, but in practice this does not happen due to the lack of a social security number. In fact, the lack of a social security number prevents them from opening a bank account, getting a job, or getting a school certificate. For the same reason, vaccination of asylum seekers was difficult.

Unaccompanied minors are immediately assigned an ex-officio guardian, provided with medical assistance if needed, accommodation, food and clothing, enrolled in school, and involved in activities organized at the Reception Center and the Red Cross.

A team from the Center for Social Work makes an assessment of the best interest of a child, after which a decision is made for accommodation, and most often children under 14 are placed in a foster family.
At the moment when аsylum seekers acquire the status of persons under subsidiary protection, they receive a social security number and have the same rights as the citizens of North Macedonia, access to social protection rights, to the labor market, to health care. The Red Cross helps in the process of integration of persons.

Mrs Jiselle Cox, Founder and President, Freely Give Foundation

The Government of Trinidad and Tobago in 2019 conducted a registration for Venezuelan migrants which would give them access to work and live for 6 mths with possible extention. However, at the end of the exercise, there were over 16,000 Venezuelans registered, but the United Nations reported that over 40,000 in the country. Having said that, data collection can be intimidating in some cases.
