Having studied the particular condition of long-distance commuters to London, my intention is to transform their monotonous, stressful, and dull routine into a more fun and entertaining activity. In particular, the project will visually reinvent both the commuters and the sites they cross daily (Tube stations, buses etc.), inspired by common carnival elements and iconography.
This project will take the form of a paper toy theatre which will set three everyday sceneries reinvented in carnivalesque semblance, with movable masked characters included. The theatre components will be then printed as a book to cut out and build autonomously at home.
 The decision of transporting commuters and public transport into a 3-D set designed dimension derives from the historical origins of such medium. Being used for decades as souvenir for pantomimes, toy theatres are in fact historically connected to traditional European masks and, therefore, to Western carnival. Moreover, the DIY activity proposed has the purpose of making adults rediscover the importance of playing and having fun, which are, again, two key aspects of carnival.

The prototypes will only show the theatre architecture and how it can be assembled autonomously. In addition to this, I plan to set a color scheme, complete one of the three background illustrated sets and present 3 of the 6 characters dressed with designed carnival costumes. To do so, I need to use the material I collected during unit 2, in particular the patterns found on public transports, which will serve me for the costumes. 
I also intend to print an A3 poster communicating my project proposal to the visitors.
