El Deafo

In El Deafo by Cece Bell, the genre is autobiography, because it is a story that the author wrote about her own experiences as a kid. One clue is that the author's name is Cece and the main character's name is Cece, too. The book is about a girl who loses her hearing and needs to adjust to life with a bulky hearing aid. The confusing thing is that the author/illustrator draws all of the characters to look like bunnies, so it's tempting to think that this is fantasy (because, talking bunnies!). But the text treats the characters like people and, in fact, in the first line Cece says, "I was a regular little kid." That makes me think the characters are people, but they're drawn like bunnies because bunnies have big ears and this is a story that has to do with hearing and hearing loss.

In Bird and Squirrel on the run I think it's fiction. It is fiction because animals are talking in English throughout the book. Also, the houses of animals have working and painted doors. Finally, Cat falls in a canyon and doesn't even get hurt!
