It was very important to play this drum and learn the 7 typical rhythms of Guadeloupe. I enjoyed learning about the origin of the Gwo Ka, which comes from African drums and songs brought by the slaves who created this beautiful artistic communication. Music is a universal language and has the power to touch the heart of each one of us, opening bridges capable of uniting people from any part of the world, even from different cultures.

It was an unforgettable experience to participate live, singing and playing the captivating rhythms of the Gwo ka drum, a central instrument in Guadeloupean folklore. Joining the children at the Kontakaz Association sharing authentic island songs and rhythms was eye-opening. This experience highlighted that music goes beyond entertainment, serving as a powerful bridge to understand and appreciate the cultural richness of a people.
