At this part of the book Rachel thinks about many different things. She thinks about how she wants to be like Lakeisha. She also now says that she identifies as black. This also goes with theme, because the main theme of this book is that people can change in a snap. Earlier she was not sure what she identified as. She is growing as a character because we are getting more details on how she is changing as a person.

He is scared that the pigeon man would find him, too scared to go to the hospital, and too scared to go back home. We are noticing that Bricks character is still the same. He is still making things up and not being truthful.

This time a police officer came to his door and asked him questions about who he saw push Rachel's family off of the building; even though he didn't see anyone actually do that. But instead of coming forward with the truth that he never saw anyone, he just lied again and made up something. This shows that Brick is lying to himself and others still.

The other people want to use Brick as a money maker, because he can play the harmonica. They give him a pill without telling him what it is; he takes it. This shows us that Brick takes things that some people would think is bad, as normal. This maybe because in Bricks past he has gone though many different things that might not be normal to many people.

She can have the, both help her in her life.
