I think this is a good opportunity for the student to break down vocabulary words on their own with multiple means of representation. Another assignment I would like to try in my Chemistry class is the "Science Documentary" assignment. I think this would work well as a summative assessment where students can tell the class all they know about a specific chemistry concept.

I am about to start an Earth Moon and Sun unit in my science class so the the Solar System Documentary seems like a good start.


I also teach a cooking elective and think the cooking show assignment would be a great project for my students.

I would challenge my students to not only express their opinions, but support their views with evidence from other texts. I feel it would be interesting to the students since they are able to choose the content. The assignment supports the standards of conducting research/finding relevant texts, providing evidence through texts/research, and providing a logical sequence to their presentation. I'm interested to see how I can provide different levels of support for my students; some may be able to create a video from start to finish on their own, while others may need to have a template created to assist with creating the video.
