I think caring allows us to know our families as individuals and is a gateway to trust. A relationship built on trust and caring allows for open communication. We can work with our families to provide solutions. Fixing or curing implies that something is broken and sometimes that isn’t the case. Caring allows people to be heard, which is sometimes what people want. I usually prefer to support rather than fix other peaple's problems. However, in my work in the Business Office, I think it is easy to become fixated on curing because I can usually see a clear path to achieving what we are trying to achieve. But when I speak to teachers and families, I am reminded that there are people behind the paperwork, and people are complex and multifaceted creatures.
