2.(a) What piques your curiosity?
Cameras back then ran on film and used to capture and record historic events and moments. Today, we are able to see the photos and videos that were taken in the past. It can make us feel nostalgic, allow us to see how these historic events and remember these moments in time. These photos and videos taken by a camera can leave a lasting impression on us.

2. (b) What resonates with you or arouses a response or triggers a memory?
I have always been intrigued with cameras and photography ever since I was young. I had my first polaroid camera when I was about 6 or 7 and my first experience with my dad's DSLR camera when I was about 11. My dad was into cameras and I have always been curious about it. He taught me some things about the camera like the functions & the different type of lenses and a bit of photography theory like exposure, shutter speed, aperture). When I was around 14 or 15, he passed down his camera to me as he didn't use the camera often and he knows that I really enjoy photography. After that, I began experimenting with different genres of photography with my dad's DSLR camera and improve my skills and gain more knowledge about photography by watching videos on social media on some tips and inspiration and find out more about the different types of cameras and genres of photography. So far, I have done wildlife photography, sports photography, event photography and street photography. I am still exploring other genres of photography and hope to be a successful photographer in the future. Over the years of doing photography, I realised that I love to take photos because I like to capture precious moments in time for memory and I believe that photography is an art form that is quite unique, which I love as well.

2. (c) Where can we find or associate in today's context?
Cameras have evolved over the years, from film cameras, to polaroid cameras, to DSLR & mirrorless cameras, and now, smartphones. Today, more people are using the cameras on the smartphones as they are capable of producing good photos and it is with them wherever they go instead of the DSLR and mirrorless cameras. DSLR and mirrorless cameras are more expensive and can be bulky and inconvenient to bring around sometimes. They are mostly used by professional photographers or hobbyist photographers like me.

The left photo was taken many years ago, when I was about 7 with my childhood friends at a chalet that we frequently go to over the years. The middle photo was taken by me with my polaroid camera (which unfortunately spolied and had to throw away) at the zoo. And the photo on the right was taken this year with my secondary school friend when we went back to serve our own uniform groups.

1) Capturing Singapore at night through the lens of a photographer
Synopsis: Have you ever notice how beautiful Singapore is at night? Have you ever notice the vibrancy of the city, how people true feelings show when it gets dark? And have you ever notice places that we know are slowly disappearing or forgotten? These are the questions that I hope viewers will think about and be able to experience the beauty of Singapore at night through this photo series.

(CHOSEN)
2) Abandoned, Forgotten, Isolated - A photographer's perspective
Singapore is a vibrant city at night, but we never really notice the beauty of iconic buildings and places that are slowly being forgotten and abandoned. In society, there may be people who feel isolated, lonely, abandoned, but we can’t see it because they keep it hidden from others, especially from their loved ones because they don’t want them to see that side of them and worry about them. From this photo series, I hope that you can relate to it, appreciate & cherish these forgotten iconic buildings & places, and encourage those who may feel this way to get out and enjoy life because YOU ONLY LIVE ONCE!

The 35mm camera: The first Leica camera was developed by Oskar Barnack. Introduced in 1925, the Leica prototype used a small-format, 35mm film. In comparison with the bulky box cameras previously in use, the compact Leica camera was a highly modern improvement.

Color photos: In 1936, photographic technology took an exciting step forward with advances in color film. Kodak released Kodachrome, a film with multiple layers for developing in color.

Polaroid Pictures: Around that time, the first instant camera was also invented. The aesthetic is as popular as ever, enthusiastically coopted by photo services such as Instagram. The Polaroid camera introduced by Edwin H. Land in 1848 was capable of producing a fully developed photo shortly after taking it.

The Digital Camera: While the concept of digital cameras has existed since the 1960s, the Eastman Kodak camera designed by Steven Sasson in 1975 is generally considered to be the first self-contained digital camera. Much like photography with film, advances in digital technology have led to explosive growth in the medium’s popularity.

Source: https://www.lumas.com/history-photography/
